Background: Beta adrenergic receptors (AR) are highly polymorphic and important regulators of cardiovascular homeostasis. Among these, beta1 and beta2 AR regulate cardiac contractility and frequency and are important pharmacological targets.
Aim: To evaluate genotype and gene-gene interaction between beta1-AR Arg389Gly and beta2-AR Arg16Gly, Gln27Glu and Thr164Ile polymorphisms, as risk factors for HF.
Material And Methods: Eighty chronic HF patients and eighty-eight controls matched by age and sex were genotyped for beta1-AR Arg389Gly, beta2-AR Arg16Gly, Gln27Glu and Thr164Ile polymorphisms.
Results: The presence of beta2-AR Glu allele was a risk predictor for HF (odds ratio (OR) = 2.81; 95% confidence intervals (CI) = 1.49-5.31). Interactions that increased the risk for HF were found in patients carrying at least one of the beta2-AR Glu and beta2-AR Gly allele (OR = 3.81; 95% CI = 1.50-0.70) and beta2-AR Glu and beta1-AR Gly allele combination (OR = 5.51; 95% CI = 2.19-13.86). Furthermore, the frequency of beta2-AR Glu allele was higher among patients with a history of acute myocardial infarction (with infarction: 0.534, without: 0.313, p = 0.01).
Conclusions: Beta2-AR Glu allele could be a risk predictorfor HF. This risk could be enhanced by the additional presence of beta2-AR Gly16 or beta1-AR Arg389 alleles. The frequency of beta2-AR Gln27 Glu allele was higher among patients with a history of myocardial infarction.

The objective of study was to investigate the association between the Gln27Glu polymorphism in the β2-АR gene and body mass index in patients with bronchial asthma with regard to the age of onset. Study included 553 patients with bronchial asthma (BA) and 95 apparently healthy individuals with no individual and family history of asthma symptoms. All of them had previously signed an informed consent form for study participation.

Background: Polymorphisms of the Adrenergic Receptors (ARs) might affect the development and progression of Heart Failure (HF) and the response to treatment with β-blockade therapy.
Objective: To examine the role of the Gln27Glu polymorphism of β2-AR in HF development and to assess the hypothesis that Gln27Glu is associated with coronary artery disease in patients with ischaemic HF.
Methods: In this case control study we enrolled 155 consecutive patients with symptomatic HF of ischaemic aetiology with impaired Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction (LVEF) ≤35%.

Although the importance of the C terminus of the α subunit of the heterotrimeric G protein in G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR)-G protein pairing is well established, the structural basis of selective interactions remains unknown. Here, we combine live cell FRET-based measurements and molecular dynamics simulations of the interaction between the GPCR and a peptide derived from the C terminus of the Gα subunit (Gα peptide) to dissect the molecular mechanisms of G protein selectivity. We observe a direct link between Gα peptide binding and stabilization of the GPCR conformational ensemble.

Objective: To investigate the association of two β2-adrenergic receptor (β2-AR) polymorphisms (Arg16Gly, Gln27Glu) with Myasthenia Gravis (MG) associated with thymus abnormality.
Methods: Among the 74 MG patients in analysis, 24 cases were associated with thymoma, 40 cases with thymic hyperplasia, 12 with normal thymus. The genotypes of β2-AR in 76 MG (MGG) and 75 age and gender-matched healthy controls (HCG) were determined by polymerase chain reaction and nucleotide sequence determination.

Aim: To evaluate the association of β-2 adrenergic receptor (β2-AR) gene polymorphism with response of variceal pressure to propranolol in cirrhosis.
Methods: Sixty-four non-related cirrhotic patients participated in this study and accepted variceal pressure measurement before and after propranolol administration. Polymorphism of the β2-AR gene was determined by directly sequencing of the polymerase chain reaction products from the DNA samples that were prepared from the patients.
