Enlargement of the blind spot without optic disc edema has been reported in patients with no other ocular findings (acute idiopathic blind spot enlargement) and in patients with multiple evanescent white dot syndrome. We describe three patients with multifocal choroiditis who developed acute symptomatic enlargement of the blind spot. All three patients were young women in excellent health. During the course of the blind spot enlargement, the appearance of the optic nerve remained normal. We demonstrate that acute enlargement of the blind spot without disc edema occurs in patients with multifocal choroiditis. This enlargement is likely due to peripapillary retinal dysfunction. We speculate on the association of multifocal choroiditis with acute idiopathic blind spot enlargement and multiple evanescent white dot syndrome.

This paper presents, for the first time, a rotary actuator functionalized by an inclined disc rotor that serves as a distal optical scanner for endoscopic probes, enabling side-viewing endoscopy in luminal organs using different imaging/analytic modalities such as optical coherence tomography and Raman spectroscopy. This scanner uses a magnetic rotor designed to have a mirror surface on its backside, being electromagnetically driven to roll around the cone-shaped hollow base to create a motion just like a precessing coin. An optical probing beam directed from the probe's optic fiber is passed through the hollow cone to be incident and bent on the back mirror of the rotating inclined rotor, circulating the probing beam around the scanner for full 360° sideway imaging.

Retinal hemorrhage (RH) is a significant clinical finding with various etiologies, necessitating accurate classification for effective management. This study aims to externally validate deep learning (DL) models, specifically FastVit_SA12 and ResNet18, for distinguishing between traumatic and medical causes of RH using diverse fundus photography datasets. A comprehensive dataset was compiled, including private collections from South Korea and Virginia, alongside publicly available datasets such as RFMiD, BRSET, and DeepEyeNet.

Chagas disease (CD), a parasitic infection, may have ocular repercussions in its cardiologic form, since a history of heart disease of other etiologies already has been established as a risk factor for neuropathies and maculopathies. The aim of the present study was to investigate preclinical structural and vascular optic nerve head (ONH) and macular parameters in patients with chronic CD. Nineteen patients with CD and 19 healthy subjects were evaluated with optical coherence tomography, optical coherence tomography angiography, and Laguna ONhE® software.

Blind spot collisions are a critical and often overlooked threat to pedestrian safety, frequently resulting in severe injuries. This study investigates the impact of automated vehicles equipped with external human-machine interfaces (eHMIs) on pedestrian crossing behavior and safety, focusing on scenarios where AVs create mutual blind spots between pedestrians and adjacent traffic. A virtual reality experiment with 51 participants simulated crossing situations in front of yielding trucks with obstructed pedestrian visibility, featuring three eHMIs: 'Walk,' 'Don't Walk,' and 'Caution! Blind Spots'.
