Juvenile hormone (JH) plays a pivotal role in regulating post-emergence development and metabolism in previtellogenic female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. In contrast, yolk protein precursor production and egg maturation after a blood meal are regulated by the steroid hormone 20-hydroxyecdysone, the insulin-like growth factor (IGF)/insulin signaling (IIS) pathway, and the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway. The role of IIS/mTOR signaling in female adults prior to blood feeding has not been thoroughly investigated.

The pharmacotherapy of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and its progressive form, the metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), remains a hot topic in research and a largely unmet need in clinical practice. As the first approval of a disease-specific drug, resmetirom, was regarded as a milestone for the management of this common liver disease, this comprehensive and updated review aimed to highlight the importance of the hepatic thyroid hormone (TH) receptor (THR)-β signalling for the treatment of MASH, with a special focus on resmetirom. First, the genomic and non-genomic actions of the liver-directed THR-β mediated mechanisms are summarized.

Previous studies have shown that testosterone activates the GPRC6A-Duox1 axis, resulting in the production of HO which leads to the apoptosis of keratinocytes and ultimately hair loss. Here, we elucidated a molecular mechanism by which the non-genomic action of testosterone regulates cellular redox status in androgenetic alopecia (AGA). Building upon this molecular understanding, we conducted a high-throughput screening assay of Nox inhibitors from a natural compounds library.

Primary osteoporosis is closely linked to hormone deficiency, which disrupts the balance of bone remodeling. It affects postmenopausal women but also significantly impacts older men. Estrogen can promote the production of osteoprotegerin, a decoy receptor for RANKL, thereby preventing RANKL from activating osteoclasts.

Glucocorticoids are known to influence hippocampal function, but their rapid non-genomic effects on specific neurons in the hippocampal trisynaptic circuit remain underexplored. This study investigated the immediate effects of glucocorticoids on CA1 and CA3 pyramidal neurons, and dentate gyrus (DG) granule neurons in rats using the patch-clamp technique. We found that a 5 min extracellular application of corticosterone significantly reduced action potential firing frequency in CA1 pyramidal neurons, while no effects were observed in CA3 or DG neurons.
