Published: June 2009

Material And Method: A team made up of 14 subjects with algodystrophy (AD) was studied at the level of the distal zone of one superior member result of the radius and/or ulna fracture, which needed an immobilization device for 30-40 days, using acupuncture.

Results: The results were compared with those obtained at a witness team treated by electro-physical recovery (ultrasound-therapy, ultrasound-phoresis with hydrocortisone, Bernard diadynamic currents and physiotherapy). Taking into account that AD is the local expression of the General Syndrome of Adaptation, the acupuncture method was used for the improvement of the integration function of the conjunctive tissue.

Conclusion: Through the treatment with acupuncture the treatment period is much shorter, and the movement functions are much better.

BMC Med Ethics

January 2025

Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit, Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, 420/6 Rajvithi Road, Thunphayathai, Bangkok, 10400, Thailand.

Background: Despite considerable improvements in oral health in recent decades, caries and periodontitis are still widespread, ranking among the most prevalent diseases worldwide and requiring future research. The German National Cohort (NAKO Gesundheitsstudie, NAKO) is a large-scaled, multidisciplinary, nationwide, multi-centre, population-based, prospective cohort study with oral examinations that aims to provide a resource to study risk factors for major diseases. The aim of the present article is to provide the methodological background, to report on the data quality, and to present initial results of the oral examinations.

Background: Primary hyperoxaluria type 1 (PH1) is an autosomal recessive disorder with dysregulated glyoxylate metabolism in the liver. Oxalate over-production leads to renal stones, progressive kidney damage and renal failure, with potentially life-threatening systemic oxalosis. Nedosiran is a synthetic RNA interference therapy, designed to reduce hepatic lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) to decrease oxalate burden in PH.

Anthracycline-induced cardiomyopathy: risk prediction, prevention and treatment.

Nat Rev Cardiol

Cardioncology Unit, Cardioncology and Second Opinion Division, European Institute of Oncology, Istituto di Ricovero e Cura a Carattere Scientifico, Milan, Italy.

Anthracyclines are the cornerstone of treatment for many malignancies. However, anthracycline cardiotoxicity is a considerable concern given that it can compromise the clinical effectiveness of the treatment and patient survival despite early discontinuation of therapy or dose reduction. Patients with cancer receiving anthracycline treatment can have a reduction in their quality of life and likelihood of survival due to cardiotoxicity, irrespective of their oncological prognosis.
