Migration of intraabdominal catheters into the bowel is a well-known phenomenon of uncertain cause. Intragastric migration of adjustable gastric banding is not an uncommon complication, with a reported prevalence of 1-11% in most series. Migration of the connecting tube into the small bowel lumen or colonic lumen is very rare. We present a case study of a female who had adjustable gastric banding with persistent wound infection at the access port side that failed with conservative treatment. Migration of the connecting tube into the jejunal lumen was observed at laparoscopy. The connecting tube and port were removed and the band remained. Small bowel defects were repaired laparoscopically. Migration of band tubing into the bowel should be considered in the clinical setting of relapsing port-side infection.

We present a 72-year-old man with end-stage renal disease and Hashimoto encephalopathy in whom a diagnosis of epidural emphysema because of esophageal perforation by a nasogastric tube placement. Although its imaging findings may be alarming to clinicians, close monitoring and conservative treatment are advisable.

The combination of macroporous cryogels with synthetic peptide factors represents a promising but poorly explored strategy for the development of extracellular matrix (ECM)-mimicking scaffolds for peripheral nerve (PN) repair. In this study, IKVAV peptide was functionalized with terminal lysine residues to allow its in situ cross-linking with gelatin macromer, resulting in the formation of IKVAV-containing proteinaceous cryogels. The controllable inclusion and distribution of the peptide molecules within the scaffold was verified using a fluorescently labelled peptide counterpart.

In this study, we introduce a new method for oligonucleotide fragment assembly. Unlike polymerase chain assembly and ligase chain assembly that rely on short, highly purified oligonucleotides, our method, named , uses a one-tube, splint-driven assembly reaction. Splynthesis connects standard-desalted "contig" oligos (∼150 nt in length) via shorter "splint" oligos harboring 5' and 3' blocking modifications to prevent off-target ligation and amplification events.
