Authors present the results of a retroprospective study to assess the number of rubella cases recorded in medical social assistance units for children, in two districts of Moldavia, Romania, between 1993-2003. The age distribution highlighted a predominance of 11-19 age groups in Botoşani and 5-14 in Iaşi; and sex distribution, a predominance in females, but with no significant difference. The rubella epidemic peak of year 2003 was observed in both districts. The necessity of Immunization National Program spreading for rubella and rubella congenital syndrome prevention is a reality, taking into consideration the high incidence of this disease in institutionalized children also.
