: The effects of ageing on the diaphragm are unclear. This study examined the association between ageing and diaphragm thickness, thickening fraction (TF), and diaphragm excursion (DE) as assessed by ultrasonography after adjusting for other factors. The relationship between these parameters and maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP) was also investigated.

Background: Francisella tularensis is an aerobic, gram negative coccobacillus bacterium that causes tularemia. F. tularensis spreads primarily through ticks, biting flies, droplet inhalation, contaminated mud or water, or infected animal bites, and it can survive in animal carcasses with the most common mode of transmission occurring via inoculation into the skin and inhalation/ingestion.

Introduction: The understanding of the interaction of closed-loop control of ventilation and oxygenation, specifically fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO2) and positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP), and fluid resuscitation after burn injury and acute lung injury from smoke inhalation is limited. We compared the effectiveness of FiO2, PEEP, and ventilation adjusted automatically using adaptive support ventilation (ASV) and decision support fluid resuscitation based on urine output in a clinically relevant conscious ovine model of lung injury secondary to combined smoke inhalation and major burn injury.
Methods: Sheep were subjected to burn and smoke inhalation injury under deep anesthesia and analgesia.
Background: Although small airway disease has been recognized as a major contributor to obstructive respiratory diseases, the association between occupational endotoxin exposure and small airway disease, as characterized by CT scans, requires further investigation.
Research Question: What is the association between occupational endotoxin exposure and small airway disease, and which CT imaging biomarkers effectively detect pre-clinical airway dysfunction?
Study Design And Methods: This study includes 404 subjects from the Shanghai Textile Worker Cohort. We collected longitudinal inspiratory/expiratory CT scans, spirometry data, and endotoxin levels in 2011 and 2016.
