A 54-year-old man on palliative treatment for disseminated cutaneous malignant melanoma presented with abdominal pain and abdominal distention. A computed tomography scan showed an area in the distal ileum suggesting intussusceptions. In an exploratory laparotomy, a 10-cm mass was found comprised of the distal ileum that had intussuscepted secondary to the small bowel metastases of melanoma. A palliative resection of 2 segments of the small bowel was performed.

Background: Radiotherapy for pelvic malignant tumors inevitably causes intestinal tissue damage. The regeneration of intestinal epithelium after radiation injury relies mainly on crypt fission. However, little is known about the regulatory mechanisms of crypt fission events.

Oshmarin & Demshin, 1972 is redescribed from the posterior intestine of tropical tortoise (Gmelin, 1789) (Testudines: Geoemydidae) from China. Some characteristic features of the male reproductive system not reported previously are now reported for the present species. These include the presence of two blind diverticula near the mid-region of the seminal vesicle and a small cuticular structure near the opening of the cloaca - which we propose to name the 'scutum.

Background And Aims: Observational healthcare data are an important tool for delineating patients' inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) journey in real-world settings. However, studies that characterize IBD cohorts typically rely on a single resource, apply diverse eligibility criteria, and extract variable sets of attributes, making comparison between cohorts challenging. We aim to longitudinally describe and compare IBD patient cohorts across multiple geographic regions, employing unified data and analysis framework.

Glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) are gut-derived peptide hormones that potentiate glucose-dependent insulin secretion. The clinical development of GIP receptor (GIPR)-GLP-1 receptor (GLP-1R) multi-agonists exemplified by tirzepatide and emerging GIPR antagonist-GLP-1R agonist therapeutics such as maritide is increasing interest in the extra-pancreatic actions of incretin therapies. Both GLP-1 and GIP modulate inflammation, with GLP-1 also acting locally to alleviate gut inflammation in part through anti-inflammatory actions on GLP-1R+ intestinal intraepithelial lymphocytes.

Celiac disease (CD) is a chronic illness. Blood testing for tissue transglutaminase antibodies is the initial screening test for the diagnosis of CD, and upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and duodenal/jejunal biopsy are used to confirm CD. Intussusception (IS) is the process in which a proximal segment of the bowel invaginates through the lumen of a distal segment.
