The Countdown to 2015 intervention coverage indicators in the occupied Palestinian territory are similar to those of other Arab countries, although there are gaps in continuity and quality of services across the continuum of the perinatal period. Since the mid 1990s, however, access to maternity facilities has become increasingly unpredictable. Mortality rates for infants (age =1 year) and children younger than 5 years have changed little, and the prevalence of stunting in children has increased. Living conditions have worsened since 2006, when the elected Palestinian administration became politically and economically boycotted, resulting in unprecedented levels of Palestinian unemployment, poverty, and internal conflict, and increased restrictions to health-care access. Although a political solution is imperative for poverty alleviation, sustainable development, and the universal right to health care, women and children should not have to wait. Urgent action from international and local decision makers is needed for sustainable access to high-quality care and basic health entitlements.

In the current study, new pyranopyrazole analogues (9a-d and 10a-d) were synthesized through a one-pot condensation reaction of 2-arylacetohydrazide. The inhibitory abilities were investigated against the XO enzyme through experimental and molecular docking analyses. The synthesis studies were based on ultrasound-mediated condensation reactions of four-component systems containing 2-arylacetohydrazide, ethyl acetoacetate, indoline-2,3-dione, and ethyl 2-cyanoacetate/malononitrile in various solvents and catalysts to yield pyranopyrazole analogues (9a-d and 10a-d) in a short reaction time and remarkably favorable yields ranging from 79-92%.

Obesity management through laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy can occasionally lead to rare but severe complications, including Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). This report analyzes two cases of GBS following LSG, highlighting differences in symptoms, diagnosis, and management. The first patient experienced rapid onset neurological symptoms post-surgery, confirmed as GBS through clinical and electrophysiological assessments, and responded well to intravenous immunoglobulin.

Providing care for families under occupation has always been marked by scarce resources and too many patients. The current war in Gaza has dramatically worsened conditions in the Occupied Territories of Palestine (OTP). A family physician and her team in the southern West Bank describe their own challenges and give voice to the physicians in the OTP they interviewed to better understand the professional and personal challenges of living and working during the uncertainty of war.
