Interaction of cardiotonic drugs (strophantidine acetate, suphan, para-oxybenzoic acid) and ubiquinone with phospholipid bilayers has been studied. Exothermic effect of the reaction followed by an increase in microviscosity and hydrophobicity of the bilayer from cardiolipin, but by a decrease of the microviscosity of the bilayer from lecithin has been estimated. A correlation is observed between changes in the lecithin bilayer fluidity and the heat effect of the interaction at the initial period of time after mixing of reagents.

Within class II bacteriocins, we assume the presence of a separate subfamily of antimicrobial peptides possessing a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity. Although these peptides are structurally related to the subclass IIa (pediocin-like) bacteriocins, they have significant differences in biological activities and, probably, a mechanism of their antimicrobial action. A representative of this subfamily is acidocin A from TK9201.

Gramicidin S (GS), one of the first discovered antimicrobial peptides, still shows strong antibiotic activity after decades of clinical use, with no evidence of resistance. The relatively high hemolytic activity and narrow therapeutic window of GS limit its use in topical applications. Encapsulation and targeted delivery may be the way to develop the internal administration of this drug.

Rhamnolipids (RLs) and Fengycins (FGs) are biosurfactants with very promising antifungal properties proposed to reduce the use of synthetic pesticides in crops. Background And Purpose: Although the amphiphilic nature of the widely used antithrombotic drug Ticagrelor is well known, it was never considered as a membranotropic agent capable of interacting with the lipid bilayer in a receptor-independent way. In this study, we investigated the influence of Ticagrelor on plasma membrane lipid order in platelets and if this modulates the potency of Ticagrelor at the P2Y receptor.
Experimental Approach: We combined fluorescent in situ, in vitro and in silico approaches to probe the interactions between the plasma membrane of platelets and Ticagrelor.

Emerging resistance of fungal pathogens and challenges faced in drug development have prompted renewed investigations into novel antifungal lipopeptides. The antifungal lipopeptide AF reported here is a natural lipopeptide isolated and purified from Bacillus subtilis. The AF lipopeptide's secondary structure, functional groups, and the presence of amino acid residues typical of lipopeptides were determined by circular dichroism, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy.
