Triterpenoids gilvsins A-D (1-4), with oxygenated lanostane skeletons, were isolated from the fruiting body of Phellinus gilvus, together with two known compounds, 24-methylenelanost-8-ene-3beta, 22-diol and 5alpha-ergosta-7,22-diene-3-one. The structures of 1-4 were deduced from analysis of spectroscopic data. The absolute configuration at C-22 of 1 was determined by the modified Mosher's method and the structure of 1 was confirmed by X-ray analysis. The hypoglycemic activities of the crude extract of P. gilvus and the isolated compounds were also evaluated, but were not promising for further investigation.

Article Synopsis
  • Chinese medicinal fungi known as "Sanghuang" have a long history of recognized medicinal properties, but similar-looking fungi have often been mistakenly used in traditional medicine.
  • A study highlights the limitations of previous taxonomic methods for differentiating true Sanghuang fungi from Sanghuang-like fungi in the genera Porodaedalea, Phellinus, and Inonotus.
  • Utilizing mitogenomes, the research demonstrates distinct genetic characteristics that help classify these fungi more accurately, supporting the reclassification of Phellinus gilvus S12 as Sanghuangporus vaninii and providing tools for further research on these species.

Nutritional Value and Antioxidant, Antimicrobial and Cytotoxic Activity of Wild Macrofungi.

Microorganisms

April 2023

Grupo de Investigación en Productos Naturales, GIPRONUT, Universidad del Tolima, Ibagué 730006, Colombia.

Macrofungi are among the most promising sources of biologically active natural products with nutritional qualities and therapeutic values. In this work, the nutritional value of nine species of wild macrofungi from Ibague-Tolima (Colombia) was evaluated. In addition the antioxidant, antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities of an ethanol:water (70:30) extract of wild basidiomata were evaluated.
