Fluorescent analogues of cholesterol offer a powerful approach for monitoring cholesterol behavior in membranes because of their high sensitivity, suitable time resolution, and multiplicity of measurable parameters. In this work, we have monitored the orientation and dynamics of a novel fluorescent cholesterol probe, 6-dansylcholestanol (DChol), in membranes of different phase type utilizing sensitive fluorescence techniques including the red-edge excitation shift (REES) approach. Our results show that fluorescence emission maximum, anisotropy, and lifetime of DChol are dependent on the phase of the membrane. Interestingly, DChol exhibits significant red-edge excitation shift (REES) that appear to depend on the phase of the membrane. Analysis of membrane penetration depth by the parallax method shows that the dansyl group of DChol is localized at the interfacial region of the membrane ( approximately 15.6 A from the center of the bilayer). This is in excellent agreement with the previously reported location of cholesterol in fluid-phase membranes. We propose that DChol could be a potentially useful cholesterol analogue in future studies of model and biological membranes.

Shaping the structural dynamics of motor learning through cueing during sleep.

Enhancing the retention of recent memory traces through sleep reactivation is possible via Targeted Memory Reactivation (TMR), involving cueing learned material during post-training sleep. Evidence indicates detectable short-term microstructural changes in the brain within an hour after motor sequence learning, and post-training sleep is believed to contribute to the consolidation of these motor memories, potentially leading to enduring microstructural changes. In this study, we explored how TMR during post-training sleep affects performance gains and delayed microstructural remodeling, using both standard Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) and advanced Neurite Orientation Dispersion & Density Imaging (NODDI).

Understanding and effectively controlling molecular conformational changes are essential for developing responsive and dynamic molecular systems. Here, we report that an oriented external electric field (OEEF) is an effective catalyst for the cis-trans isomerization of stiff-stilbene, a key component of overcrowded alkene-based rotary motors. This reversible isomerization occurs under ambient conditions, is free from side reactions, and has been verified using ultraperformance liquid chromatography and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy.

This research presents an intelligent beam-hopping-based grant-free random access (GFRA) architecture designed for secure Internet of Things (IoT) communications in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite networks. In light of the difficulties associated with facilitating extensive device connectivity while ensuring low latency and high reliability, we present a beam-hopping GFRA (BH-GFRA) scheme that enhances access efficiency and reduces resource collisions. Three distinct resource-hopping schemes, random hopping, group hopping, and orthogonal group hopping, are examined and utilized within the framework.

We present a novel photoreconfigurable metasurface designed for independent and efficient control of electromagnetic waves with identical incident polarization and frequency across the entire spatial domain. The proposed metasurface features a three-layer architecture: a top layer incorporating a gold circular split ring resonator (CSRR) filled with perovskite material and dual -shaped perovskite resonators; a middle layer of polyimide dielectric; and a bottom layer comprising a perovskite substrate with an oppositely oriented circular split ring resonator filled with gold. By modulating the intensity of a laser beam, we achieve autonomous manipulation of incident circularly polarized terahertz waves in both transmission and reflection modes.
