Signal dephasing due to field inhomogeneity and signal decay due to transverse relaxation lead to perturbations of the Fourier encoding commonly applied in magnetic resonance imaging. Hence, images acquired with long readouts suffer from artifacts such as blurring, distortion, and intensity variation. These artifacts can be removed in reconstruction, usually based on separately collected information in form of field and relaxation maps. In this work, a recently proposed gridding-based algorithm for off-resonance correction is extended to also address signal decay. It is integrated into a new fixed-point iteration, which permits the joint estimation of an image and field and relaxation maps from multi-echo acquisitions. This approach is then applied in simulations and in vivo experiments and demonstrated to improve both images and maps. The rapid convergence of the fixed-point iteration in combination with the efficient gridding-based correction promises to render the running time of such a joint estimation acceptable.

The achievable spatial resolution of C metabolic images acquired with hyperpolarized C-pyruvate is worse than H images typically by an order of magnitude due to the rapidly decaying hyperpolarized signals and the low gyromagnetic ratio of C. This study is to develop and characterize a volumetric patch-based super-resolution reconstruction algorithm that enhances spatial resolution C cardiac MRI by utilizing structural information from H MRI. The reconstruction procedure comprises anatomical segmentation from high-resolution H MRI, calculation of a patch-based weight matrix, and iterative reconstruction of high-resolution multi-slice C MRI.

Fast activity chirp patterns in focal seizures from patients and animal models.

Time-frequency analysis of focal seizure electroencephalographic signals performed with depth electrodes in human temporal lobe structures has revealed the occurrence at onset of oscillations at approximately 30-100 Hz that feature a monotonic rapid decay in frequency content. This seizure onset pattern, referred to as chirp, has been identified as a highly specific and sensitive marker of focal seizures that are characterized by low-voltage fast activity. We report that this chirp pattern is also observed in animal models of temporal lobe epilepsy in both in vivo and in vitro preparations.

Selection signature analysis reveals genes associated with tail phenotype in sheep.

Tail type of sheep, which may be affected by many genes with a complex mechanism, is an important economic trait concerned by both raiser and consumers. Here, we employed two sheep breeds with extreme phenotypes - Mongolian sheep (short-fat-tailed) and Bamei Mutton sheep (long-thin-tailed) to analyze the genetic differences at the genomic level and find candidate genes associated with tail phenotype. The results of population structure analysis showed that the LD decay rate of Mongolian sheep was greater than that of Bamai Mutton sheep.

This article studies the synthesis, as well as the structural, vibrational, and optical properties of Eu-doped ZnO quantum dots (QDs) and investigates the energy transfer mechanism from the ZnO host to Eu ions using Reisfeld's approximation. Eu-doped ZnO QDs at varying concentrations (0-7%) were successfully prepared using a wet chemical method. The successful doping of Eu ions into the ZnO host lattice, as well as the composition and valence states of the elements present in the sample, were confirmed through X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses.
