Long term monitoring of 137Cs in foodstuffs in the Czech Republic.

Appl Radiat Isot

National Radiation Protection Institute, Bartoskova 28, 140 00 Prague, Czech Republic.

Published: May 2009

This work presents the results of (137)Cs content long-term monitoring (1986-2007) in selected groups of foodstuffs. The data in the period of 1992-2007 were roughly log-normally distributed (beef, pork, milk). The more detailed statistical evaluation in this period of time was performed. Maximum likelihood method was used for estimation of the mean values. Several methods for decreasing the detection limits of (137)Cs (detector efficiency, sample preparation, counting containers) are listed and compared.

Background: Many studies have found more severe COVID-19 outcomes in migrants and ethnic minorities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, while recent evidence also suggests higher risk of longer-term consequences. We studied the risk of a long COVID diagnosis among adult residents in Sweden, dependent on country of birth and accounting for known risk factors for long COVID.

Methods: We used linked Swedish administrative registers between March 1, 2020 and April 1, 2023, to estimate the risk of a long COVID diagnosis in the adult population that had a confirmed COVID-19 infection.

Background: Oxygen therapy is critical and vital treatment for hypoxemia and respiratory distress, however, access to reliable oxygen systems remains limited in SSA. Despite WHO initiatives that distributed over 30,000 OC oxygen concentrators worldwide, SSA faces significant challenges related to their maintenance and use, due to harsh environmental conditions, technical skill shortages and inadequate infrastructure. This review aims to systematically identify and assess the literature on OC design adaptations, maintenance challenges, and knowledge gaps in SSA, providing actionable recommendations to inform innovative and context-sensitive solutions to improve healthcare delivery in the region.

Background: Fatigue and inactivity are linked to decreased health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in chronic conditions. A multidimensional approach to activity pacing may improve HRQoL by promoting physical activity (PA) and alleviating fatigue. Addressing fatigue across chronic conditions is crucial, especially when underlying causes are unknown.
