Key Laboratory of Nonferrous Metal Chemistry and Resources Utilization of Gansu Province, State Key Laboratory of Applied Organic Chemistry, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Lanzhou University, Lanzhou 730000, P. R. China.

A novel amide type ligand benzyl-N,N-bis[(2'-furfurylaminoformyl)phenoxyl)ethyl]-amine (L) has been designed and applied for the self-assembly generation of homodinuclear lanthanide coordination compounds [Ln2(μ2-L)2(NO3)6(EtOH)2] [Ln = Eu (1), Tb (2), and Gd (3)] and a heterodinuclear derivative [EuTb(μ2-L)2(NO3)6(EtOH)2] (4). All the complexes have been characterized by the X-ray single-crystal diffraction analyses. They are isostructural, crystallize in a monoclinic space group P21/c, and form [2 + 2] rectangular macrocycle structures.

Polydentate-ligand-supported self-assembly of heterometallic T-shaped Co4RE (RE = Gd, Tb, Y) clusters: synthesis, structure and magnetism.

Dalton Trans

August 2012

State Key Laboratory of Rare Earth Resource Utilization, Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Changchun 130022, People's Republic of China.

A series of mixed-valent heterometallic pentanuclear Co(III)(3)Co(II)RE(III) (RE = Gd (1), Tb (2), Y (3)) clusters have been rationally assembled by taking advantage of a bifunctional ligand with o-vanillin and tripodal tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane units. Structural determinations reveal that all compounds are isomorphous and possess a T-shaped Co(4)RE core, which comprises two nearly linear Co(2)RE subunits sharing a common RE ion. Their magnetic properties were thoroughly studied.

Homonuclear helicates with rare-earth-metal(III) ions or heteronuclear derivatives with rare-earth-metal and aluminium or zinc centres are obtained in alkali-metal-templated self-assembly processes from isobutenylidene-bridged homoditopic bis(2-carbamido-8-hydroxyquinoline)-derived ligands 1-H(2) and 2-H(2) or heteroditopic (8-hydroxyquinoline)(2-carbamido-8-hydroxyquinoline)-derived ligands 3-H(2) and 4-H(2). Diamagnetic coordination compounds possess a high stability in organic solvents such as CDCl(3), [D(4)]MeOH or [D(6)]DMSO and can be well characterised by (1)H NMR spectroscopy by using methylene protons and the protons of the vinylic units of the ligand as stereochemical or symmetry probes, respectively. Some of the homonuclear complexes could be crystallised and were characterised by using X-ray diffraction studies.
