Unlabelled: The use of bioinformatics tools require different sequence formats at various instances. Every tool uses specific set of formats for processing. Sequence in one format is often required in another format. Thus, there is a need for sequence format conversion. A number of such tools are available in the public domain. Here, we describe BIOFFORC as a file format converter. The tool is developed with a graphical user interface in PERL.

mettannotator: a comprehensive and scalable Nextflow annotation pipeline for prokaryotic assemblies.

Bioinformatics

January 2025

European Molecular Biology Laboratory, European Bioinformatics Institute, Wellcome Genome Campus, Hinxton, Cambridge, CB10 1SD, United Kingdom.

Summary: In recent years there has been a surge in prokaryotic genome assemblies, coming from both isolated organisms and environmental samples. These assemblies often include novel species that are poorly represented in reference databases creating a need for a tool that can annotate both well-described and novel taxa, and can run at scale. Here, we present mettannotator-a comprehensive, scalable Nextflow pipeline for prokaryotic genome annotation that identifies coding and non-coding regions, predicts protein functions, including antimicrobial resistance, and delineates gene clusters.

Neurocysticercosis (NCC) has been classified as a neglected tropical disease by the World Health Organization (WHO), with the condition being regarded as the most significant parasitic disease affecting the nervous system. Hence, the aim of this study was to conduct a review of previously published case reports on this topic in order to ascertain whether there is an increasing trend of NCC worldwide and evaluate the cases that have been presented. After a comprehensive search of the Web of Science Core Collection using the keywords "neurocysticercosis" and "case reports", studies were selected by applying inclusion criteria.

Visual Noise Mask for Human Point-Light Displays: A Coding-Free Approach.

NeuroSci

January 2025

Psychological Neuroscience Laboratory, Psychology Research Center, School of Psychology, University of Minho, Rua da Universidade, 4710-057 Braga, Portugal.

Human point-light displays consist of luminous dots representing human articulations, thus depicting actions without pictorial information. These stimuli are widely used in action recognition experiments. Because humans excel in decoding human motion, point-light displays (PLDs) are often masked with additional moving dots (noise masks), thereby challenging stimulus recognition.
