The rapid complexation of photogenerated electrons-holes with copper (Cu) greatly limits the large-scale application of cuprous oxide (CuO) as a photocatalyst. Therefore, using a hydrothermal method, a type Ⅱ heterojunction structure was constructed by modifying CuO with cerium (IV) oxide (CeO). The CeO/CuO heterojunction photocatalyst effectively increased the photogenerated electron density and reduced the surface transfer impedance.

Facet engineering of CuO for efficient electrochemical glucose sensing.

Anal Chim Acta

January 2025

Hubei Provincial Key Laboratory of Green Materials for Light Industry, School of Materials and Chemical Engineering, Hubei University of Technology, Wuhan, 430068, PR China. Electronic address:

Background: Accurate monitoring glucose level is significant for human health management, especially in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of diabetes. Electrochemical quantification of glucose is a convenient and rapid detection method, and the crucial aspect in achieving great sensing performance lies in the selection and design of the electrode material. Among them, CuO, with highly catalysis ability, is commonly used as electrocatalyst in non-enzymatic glucose sensing.

Counteractive Effects of Copper Nanoparticles and Betacellulin on Ovarian Cells.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

December 2024

Instituto de Síntesis Orgánica (ISO) and Departamento de Química Orgánica, Facultad de Ciencias, Universidad de Alicante, Apdo. 99, 03080 Alicante, Spain.

Copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) are known to affect many ovarian cell functions. CuNPs, prepared using a chemical reduction method, were fully characterized by different means (TEM, DLS, XRD, Z potential, XPS, and AES). The resulting colloidal suspension contained needle-like CuNPs aggregates made of a core of metallic copper and an oxidized surface of CuO and CuO.

February 2025

Key Laboratory of Analytical Science for Food Safety and Biology (MOE & Fujian Province), Department of Chemistry, Fuzhou University, Fuzhou 350108, China. Electronic address:

Accurate and rapid identification of expired and spoiled food is crucial for food conservation, reducing resource wastage, and preventing food poisoning. This paper presents a portable electrochemical sensing platform supported by a miniature electrochemical workstation and an intelligent pH recognition system, enabling detection of L-lactic acid (L-LA) in food products without enzyme involvement. The system was based on a CuO@CuO multifaceted extended spatial hexapod structure.

Photoelectrochemical CO reduction reaction (PEC-CO2RR) into multicarbon (C and C) products is one of the most favorable paths for converting and utilizing atmospheric CO. Although Cu-based photocathodes have unique features that can convert CO into value-added products, they have limited selectivity. In this study, we established the Cu-based heterostructure by introducing the CuO (111) phase on the surface of Cu/Cu(OH) nanorods array (CNA) while integrating Pd cocatalyst to improve the selectivity of the C products via PEC-CO2RR.
