Optimal candidate selection and organ allocation should offer liver transplantation to those who are sufficiently sick to justify the procedure but not too sick to benefit from it, in an order determined by patients' projected survival benefit, matching organs of sufficiently good quality to the appropriate recipients. Significant steps have been made in recent years toward devising selection and allocation criteria based on more objective and evidence-based definitions of candidate disease severity, transplant futility, organ quality, and appropriate donor-recipient matching. However, much work remains to be done in the future.

This paper presents a surrogate-assisted global and distributed local collaborative optimization (SGDLCO) algorithm for expensive constrained optimization problems where two surrogate optimization phases are executed collaboratively at each generation. As the complexity of optimization problems and the cost of solutions increase in practical applications, how to efficiently solve expensive constrained optimization problems with limited computational resources has become an important area of research. Traditional optimization algorithms often struggle to balance the efficiency of global and local searches, especially when dealing with high-dimensional and complex constraint conditions.

Background: Major depressive disorder (MDD) during adolescence significantly jeopardizes both mental and physical health. However, the etiology underlying MDD in adolescents remains unclear.
Methods: A total of 74 adolescents with MDD and 40 health controls (HCs) who underwent comprehensive clinical and cognitive assessments were enrolled.

Introduction: Shoulder and elbow surgery fellowships in the United States are recognized for their academic emphasis, yet the correlation between an applicant's research productivity and fellowship match results remains unclear. This study (1) analyzed temporal trends in research productivity among matched fellowship applicants, (2) evaluated the influence of quantity of publications and first authorships on match positions, and (3) investigated program variations in research productivity.
Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of data from the San Francisco (SF) Match Database for shoulder and elbow surgery applicants matched between 2017 and 2024.

Rice yield strongly depends on panicle size and architecture but the genetics underlying these traits and their coordination with environmental cues through various signaling pathways have remained elusive. A genome-wide association study (GWAS) was performed to pinpoint the underlying genetic determinants for rice panicle architecture by analyzing 20 panicle-related traits using a data set consisting of 44,100 SNPs. We defined QTL windows around significant SNPs by the rate of LD decay for each chromosome and used these windows to identify putative candidate genes associated with the trait.

Monocarboxylate transporter 4 (MCT-4) is involved in various metabolic processes which are crucial in maintaining cellular pH and energy metabolism, and thus influence the tumor microenvironment. The study is aimed to rationally design effective Small interfering RNA (siRNA) that can silence MCT-4. We utilized a comprehensive workflow integrating multiple tools such as siDirect version 2.
