The member of the genus Flavivirus family Flaviviridae are arthropod-transmitted viruses. This genus includes vector-borne neurotropic viruses such as the tick-borne encephalitis virus serocomplex and the Japanese encephalitis virus serocomplex. Flavivirus encephalitis is the generic term for encephalitis caused by viruses belonging to this genus. The Japanese encephalitis virus is still active in Japan, and the tick-borne encephalitis virus is prevalent in Hokkaido, the northern region of Japan. The West Nile fever/encephalitis epidemic has been active in North and South America since 1999.

Encephalitis due to Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) is a rare condition that primarily affects children and immunosuppressed patients. Diagnosing EBV encephalitis can be challenging due to its nonspecific clinical presentation and the lack of confirmatory tests. We present the case of a 66-year-old woman with a history of kidney transplantation who was admitted due to progressive subacute mental deterioration, preceded by vertigo and without fever.

: We evaluate the immunotherapeutic potential of the yellow fever virus vaccine strain 17D (YFV 17D) for intratumoral therapy of pancreatic cancer in mice. : The cytopathic effect of YFV 17D on mouse syngeneic pancreatic cancers cells were studied both in vitro and in vivo and on human pancreatic cancers cells in vitro. : YFV 17D demonstrated a strong cytopathic effect against human cancer cells in vitro.

Tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) is an increasing health threat in Sweden and elsewhere in Europe. TBE vaccination is commonly recommended in Sweden, but limited data are available on uptake, effectiveness, and impact of TBE vaccination. General population surveys conducted in 2019-2022 were used to estimated TBE vaccine uptake.

Human bocavirus 1 (HBoV1) has appeared as an emerging pathogen, causing mild to life-threatening respiratory tract infections, acute otitis media, and encephalitis in young children and immunocompromised individuals. The lack of cell lines suitable for culturing replicative viruses hinders research on HBoV1. Here, we characterized the susceptibility to HBoV1 of 29 human and 7 animal cell lines, and identified a permissive cell line, MA104.

Unlabelled: The genus includes seventeen viral species able to cause rabies, an acute and almost invariably fatal encephalomyelitis of mammals. Rabies virus (RABV), which represents the type species of the genus, is a multi-host pathogen that over the years has undergone multiple events of host-switching, thus occupying several geographical and ecological niches. In contrast, non-RABV lyssaviruses are mainly confined within a single natural host with rare spillover events.
