Objective: To assess factors associated with failure in ventilatory weaning of children undergone surgical correction of congenital heart diseases.
Methods: Cohort study with 29 children. The heart diseases were divided into cyanotic (nine children) and acyanotic (20 children). We studied children from 0 to 5 years who underwent heart surgery with invasive mechanical ventilation.
Results: The failure group presented smaller value in SpO2 and higher values during days of stay in IMV and FiO2 when compared to the success group (P<0.05). It was observed that 4 children (14%) had failed in weaning, being necessary to return the ventilatory prosthesis before 48 hours after extubation.
Conclusion: The days of IMV, SpO2 and FiO2 were the main factors associated with failed extubation in this group of patients.

Patients with spinal cord injury (SCI) may develop depression, which can affect their rehabilitation. However, the underlying mechanism of depression in SCI patients remains unclear. Previous studies have revealed increased p38 MAPK phosphorylation in the rat hippocampus after SCI, accompanied by depression-like behaviors.

ConspectusIons are the crucial signaling components for living organisms. In cells, their transportation across pore-forming membrane proteins is vital for regulating physiological functions, such as generating ionic current signals in response to target molecule recognition. This ion transport is affected by confined interactions and local environments within the protein pore.

Juvenile Chinook Salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) populations have decreased substantially in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta (Delta) over the past decades, so considerably that two of the four genetically distinct runs are now listed in the Endangered Species Act. One factor responsible for this decline is the presence of contaminants in the Delta. Insecticides, used globally in agricultural, industrial, and household settings, have the potential to contaminate nearby aquatic systems through spray drift, runoff, and direct wastewater discharge.

Objective: The case-control study aims to identify the potential risk and protective factors contributing to breast cancer risk in the high-incidence Aizawl population and the low-incidence Agartala population, using age-specific prevalence data of established reproductive factors and body mass index (BMI) among healthy women.
Methods: A risk profile survey was conducted on asymptomatic women aged 30-64 in Aizawl and Agartala towns. Data was analysed using SPSS software.
