Site-specific 2'-methylseleno RNA labeling is a promising tool for tackling the phase problem in RNA crystallography. We have developed an efficient strategy for crystallization and structure determination of RNA and RNA/protein complexes based on preliminary crystallization screening of 2'-OCH(3)-modified RNA sequences, prior to the replacement of 2'-OCH(3) groups with their 2'-SeCH(3) counterparts. The method exploits the similar crystallization properties of 2'-OCH(3)- and 2'-SeCH(3)-modified RNAs and has been successfully validated for two test cases. In addition, our data show that 2'-SeCH(3)-modified RNA have an increased resistance to X-ray radiolysis in comparison with commonly used 5-halogen-modified RNA, which permits collection of experimental electron density maps of remarkable quality.

Interfacial solar vapor generation (ISVG) accompanied by photocatalytic degradation holds immense potential to mitigate water scarcity and pollution. Distinct from the two detached functional components (photothermal agent and photocatalyst) in a conventional evaporator, in this study, an all-in-one photothermal/catalytic agent, nitrogen-containing honeycomb carbon nanosheets (NHC), was engineered for synergistic high-efficiency steam generation and photocatalysis functions. It was demonstrated that the superoxide radical generated on the surface of NHC conferred its catalytic activity to the photodegradation of organic pollutants under full solar spectrum irradiation.

A strong n-type perovskite layer is crucial in achieving high open-circuit voltage (V) and power conversion efficiency (PCE) in the p-i-n solar cells, as the weak n-type perovskites result in a loss of V, and the p-type perovskites contain numerous electron traps that cause the severe carrier recombination. Here, three types of perylene diimide (PDI) based small molecule dopants with different dimensions, including 1D-PDI, 2D-PDI, and 3D-PDI are designed, to produce heavier n-type perovskites. The PDI-based molecules with Selenium atoms have a strong electron-donating ability, effectively enlarging the quasi-Fermi level splitting within the perovskites.

2D Dion-Jacobson (DJ) chiral perovskite materials exhibit significant promise for developing high-performance circularly polarized light (CPL) photodetectors. However, the inherently thick nature of DJ-phase 2D perovskite single crystal limits their ability to differentiate CPL photons with the two opposite polarization states. In addition, the growth of DJ-phase perovskite single crystal thin films (SCTFs) has proven challenging due to the strong interlayer electronic coupling.

Formamidinium lead triiodide (FAPbI) has received significant attention in the field of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) owing to its excellent optoelectronic properties and high thermal stability. However, the photoactive α-FAPbI perovskites are highly susceptible to degradation into non-perovskite δ-FAPbI phases, especially under humid conditions, which severely diminishes the device performance of FAPbI PSCs. Here, we propose an interfacial seeding strategy for regulating crystallization and stabilizing α-FAPbI perovskites in humid air.

Spray cooling, which dissipates heat through droplet evaporation, is an efficient cooling method. Using seawater instead of freshwater in spraying is appealing given the intensifying global water crisis. However, seawater-based cooling suffers from salt accumulation on hot surfaces.
