To detect changes in the oxygen concentration during biochemical reactions, the exchange broadening in the ESR spectra of nitroxide radicals caused by the dissolved oxygen, has been used. The measurements have been carried out using changes in the width either of the proton hyperfine structure components or of the nitrogen hyperfine structure line with an unresolved proton structure. Detection of mitochondrial respiration in a volume of about 10(-3) cm 3 and respiration for 100 +/- 5 liver cells in a volume of about 10(-4) cm3 has been carried out.

Background: Adalimumab biosimilar MSB11022 (Idacio®) has been approved for the same indications as its originator (Humira®), based on findings from clinical trials in plaque psoriasis. Data on its efficacy and safety in inflammatory bowel disease, however, are scarce.
Methods: Retrospective, observational study of 44 patients with inflammatory bowel disease: 30 were treated with originator adalimumab, five were directly started on MSB11022, and nine switched from originator to biosimilar adalimumab.

Human body cells and our daily electronic devices both communicate information within their distinct worlds by regulating the flow of electrons across specified membranes. While electronic devices depend on the flow of electrons generated by conductive materials to communicate within a digital network, biological systems use ion gradients, created in analog biochemical reactions, to trigger biological data transmission throughout multicellular systems. Electrogenetics is an emerging concept in synthetic biology in which electrons generated by digital electronic devices program customized electron-responsive biological units within living cells.

Copper is ubiquitous as a structural material, and as a reagent in (bio)chemical transformations. A vast number of chemical reactions rely on the near-inevitable preference of copper for positive oxidation states to make useful compounds. Here we show this electronic paradigm can be subverted in a stable compound with a copper-magnesium bond, which conforms to the formal oxidation state of Cu(-I).
