Phenacylmalononitrile 1 reacts with dimethylformamide dimethyl acetal to yield an enaminone which could be readily converted into a pyrrole or an aminopyridazine by treating with ammonium acetate and hydrazine hydrate, respectively. Compound 1 reacted with hydrazine hydrate in ethanol at room temperature to yield the dihydropyridazine 9 as a single product. In refluxing ethanol this product further reacted with hydrazine hydrate to yield the novel dihydropyrazolopyridazinamine 10.

Chemically engineered extracts represent a promising source of new bioactive semi-synthetic molecules. Prepared through direct derivatization of natural extracts, they can include constituents enriched with elements and sub-structures that are less common in natural products compared to drugs. Fourteen such extracts were prepared through sequential reactions with hydrazine and a fluorinating reagent, and their α-glucosidase inhibition properties were compared.

Chemical mitochondrial uncouplers are protonophoric, lipophilic small molecules that transport protons from the mitochondrial intermembrane space into the matrix independent of ATP synthase, thus uncoupling nutrient oxidation from ATP production. Our previous work identified BAM15 (IC 0.27 μM) as a potent and efficacious mitochondrial uncoupler with potential for obesity treatment.

A nanocomposite consisting of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs), poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA), and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) was fabricated by a two-step chemical reduction method. Firstly, a PDDA-rGO composite was prepared by using hydrazine hydrate as a reducing agent. Subsequently, the AuNP-PDDA-rGO composite was prepared in ethylene glycol with PDDA-rGO and HAuCl as raw materials using sodium citrate as a reduction agent.

Covalent organic nanotubes offer enhanced stability, robustness, and functionality, compared to their noncovalent counterparts. This study explores constructing polydiacetylene (PDA) nanotubes using a two-step process: self-assembly via noncovalent interactions followed by UV-induced polymerization of a diacetylene template. A promising building block consisting of a hydrogen-bonding headgroup, barbituric acid, linked to a linear diacetylene chain was prepared.
