Article Abstract

Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry has been employed to study the reactions of gas-phase cationic cobalt clusters, Co(n) (+) (n=4-30), with nitric oxide, NO, and nitrous oxide, N(2)O, under single collision conditions. Isolation of the initial cluster permits detailed investigation of fragmentation channels which characterize the reactions of all but the largest clusters studied. In reaction with N(2)O, most clusters generate the monoxides Co(n)O(+) without fragmentation, cobalt atom loss accompanying only subsequent reactions. By contrast, chemisorption of even a single NO molecule is accompanied by fragmentation of the cluster. The measured rate coefficients for the Co(n) (+)+N(2)O reaction as a function of cluster size are significantly smaller than those calculated using the surface charge capture model, while for NO the rates are comparable. The reactions have been studied under high coverage conditions by storing clusters for extended periods to permit multiple reactions to occur. This leads to interesting chemistry on the surface of the cluster resulting in the formation of stable oxide clusters and/or the decomposition of nitric oxide on the cluster with the resulting loss of molecular nitrogen.

We report herein the synthesis and full spectroscopic characterization of two AB-corrole phosphonic acids. Thanks to the presence of a phosphonic acid functional group at the 10--position, the corroles were covalently linked to the hexanuclear Zr clusters of a PCN-222 metal-organic framework (MOF). After the insertion of cobalt into the corrole macrocycle, the metal complexes are able to bind small volatile molecules such as carbon monoxide (CO).

Breaking the Trade-Off Between Electrical Conductivity and Mechanical Strength in Bulk Graphite Using Metal-Organic Framework-Derived Precursors.

Adv Sci (Weinh)

January 2025

State Key Laboratory for Modification of Chemical Fibers and Polymer Materials & College of Materials Science and Engineering, Donghua University, Shanghai, 201620, China.

High-performance bulk graphite (HPBG) that simultaneously integrates superior electrical conductivity and excellent strength is in high demand, yet it remains critical and challenging. Herein a novel approach is introduced utilizing MOF-derived nanoporous metal/carbon composites as precursors to circumvent this traditional trade-off. The resulting bulk graphite, composed of densely packed multilayered graphene sheets functionalized with diverse cobalt forms (nanoparticles, single atoms, and clusters), exhibits unprecedented electrical conductivity in all directions (in-plane: 7311 S cm⁻¹, out-of-plane: 5541 S cm⁻¹) and excellent mechanical strength (flexural: 101.

Synthesis and Redox Chemistry of Co3E4 (E = P, As) Clusters.

University of Regensburg, Inorganic Chemistry, Universitätsstrasse 31, D-93040, Regensburg, GERMANY.

The synthesis of the cluster complexes [(Cp'''Co)3(µ3,η2:η2:η2-E3)(µ3-E)] (E = P (3), As (4)) starting from the anionic triple-decker complexes [K(18cr6)(dme)2][(Cp'''Co)2(µ,η4:η4-E4)]- (E = P (1), As (2)) by electrophilic quenching with the Co dimer [(Cp'''CoCl)2] is reported. Both complexes show a distinct redox chemistry, which was first investigated by cyclic voltammetry. Subsequently, the monoanions [K(L)(sol)n][(Cp'''Co)3(µ3,η2:η2:η2-E3)(µ3-E)] (E = P, L = 18cr6, sol = dme, n = 2 (5), E = As, L = 2,2,2-crypt, n = 0 (6)), the monocations [(Cp'''Co)3(µ3,η2:η2:η2-E3)(µ3-E)][FAl] (E = P (7), As (8)) and the dications [(Cp'''Co)3(µ3,η3:η3:η3-E4)][TEF]2 (E = P (9), As (10)) could be realized experimentally and isolated in moderate to good yields.

: Limited evidence links urinary metal exposure to osteoporosis in broad populations, prompting this study to cover this knowledge gap using supervised and unsupervised approaches. : This study included 15,923 participants from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) spanning from 1999 to 2020. Urinary concentrations of nine metals-barium (Ba), cadmium (Cd), cobalt (Co), cesium (Cs), molybdenum (Mo), lead (Pb), antimony (Sb), thallium (Tl), and tungsten (Tu)-were measured using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS).
