Time-resolved transmissivity and reflectivity of exfoliated graphene and thin graphite films on a 295 K SiO(2)/Si substrate are measured at 1300 nm following excitation by 150 fs, 800 nm pump pulses. From the extracted transient optical conductivity we identify a fast recovery time constant which increases from approximately 200 to 300 fs and a longer one which increases from 2.5 to 5 ps as the number of atomic layers increases from 1 to approximately 260. We attribute the temporal recovery to carrier cooling and recombination with the layer dependence related to substrate coupling. Results are compared with related measurements for epitaxial, multilayer graphene.

Two-dimensional Nanosheets by Liquid Metal Exfoliation.

Adv Mater

Liquid exfoliation is a scalable and effective method for synthesizing 2D nanosheets (NSs) but often induces contamination and defects. Here, liquid metal gallium (Ga) is used to exfoliate bulk layered materials into 2D NSs at near room temperature, utilizing the liquid surface tension and Ga intercalation to disrupt Van der Waals (vdW) forces. In addition, the process can transform the 2H-phase of transition metal dichalcogenides into the 1T'-phase under ambient conditions.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease caused by the dysfunction and death of dopaminergic neurons. Neural-stem-cell (NSC)-based therapy is a promising approach for the treatment of PD but its therapeutic performance is limited by low efficiency of differentiation of NSCs to dopaminergic neurons. Although electrical stimulation can promote neuronal differentiation, it is not verified whether it can induce the NSCs to specifically differentiate into dopaminergic neurons.

Fast-response photodetectors have attracted considerable attention in the application of high-speed communication, real-time monitoring, and optical imaging systems. However, most reported photodetectors suffer from limitations of the inherent properties of materials, low carrier transport efficiency, and unmatched interfaces, which lead to a low response speed. Here, we report a WS/graphene/MoS vertical van der Waals heterojunction fabricated by mechanical exfoliation and dry transfer methods for fast response.

Electrochemical exfoliation of graphite has attracted much attention as a practical mass production of two-dimensional graphene-like materials. There is an increasing desire to find new and improved methods to create unique exfoliated products with excellent functionality. We used aqueous ammonium hydrogen carbonate solution as a new electrolyte for anodic oxidative exfoliation of graphite.
