An 11-month-old female Saanen goat, weighing 12.7 kg, was taken to the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal University of Minas Gerais because of sternal recumbency. On clinical examination, the animal was much smaller than expected and had hair similar to that of puppies and areas of hyperpigmentation on the head and dorsocervical and dorsothoracic cranial regions.

Postmenopausal osteoporosis, characterized by an imbalance between osteoclast-mediated bone resorption and osteoblast-driven bone formation, presents substantial health implications. In this study, we investigated the role of black goat extract (BGE), derived from a domesticated native Korean goat, estrogen-like activity, and osteoprotective effects in vitro. BGE's mineral and fatty acid compositions were analyzed via the ICP-AES method and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, respectively.

Article Synopsis
  • Osteoporosis-induced vertebral compression fractures (OVCF) are common in people over 50, especially menopausal women, and are treated with techniques like vertebroplasty.
  • A new aspiration technique (APV) aims to reduce the risk of bone cement leakage during the procedure, which can lead to serious complications.
  • Tests on Nubian goats showed that APV significantly lowers the leakage rate (13% vs. 53%) and provides better cement distribution compared to traditional vertebroplasty.

Osteoporosis is a skeletal disorder characterized by a low bone mass and density. Alendronate (Alen), a second-generation bisphosphonate drug, was indicated as the first-line regimen for the treatment of osteoporosis. However, the use of Alen has been limited due to its low bioavailability and gastrointestinal side effects.

We investigated the potential anti-glycation and anti-osteoporosis properties of Caprine milk CSN1S2 protein on the serum AGEs and sRAGE level, osteogenic factors expressions, femoral bone mesostructure, histomorphometry, and hydroxyapatite crystals changes in T2DM rats. Varying doses of Caprine milk CSN1S2 protein (0, 375, 750, and 1500 mg/kg BW) were used to treat the control and T2DM rats. We measured AGEs and sRAGE level; RUNX2, OSX, BMP2, and Caspase-3 expressions in rats using ELISA and immunohistochemistry, respectively.
