This study was conducted to investigate the differences between auditory brainstem responses--ABR recorded in men with temporary or permanent threshold shifts (TTS or PTS). Behaviorally, the tested ears showed insignificant differences in the hearing thresholds at frequencies in the range 0.25-8 kHz. The latency of waves I, III, V and interwave intervals I-III, III-V, I-V were analysed as functions of stimulus intensity. The comparisons between recordings obtained in groups with TTS and PTS showed significant differences in latencies of wave V at 90 dB nHl only. The latencies of waves I, III and interwave intervals were unaltered.

A non-invasive, accessible and effective biomarker is critical to the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of age-related cognitive decline. Recent work has suggested a strong association between auditory brainstem responses (ABR) and cognitive function in aging macaques. Here we show in 118 human participants (66 females; age range=18-92 years; hearing loss = -5 to 70 dB HL) that cognition is associated with both age and hearing level, but this triad relationship is mainly driven by the age factor.

Objective: This study aims to investigate Auditory Evoked Brainstem Responses (ABR) and Distortion Product Otoacoustic Emission (DPOAE) suppression in migraine patients with and without phonophobia.
Methods: Thirty-two migraine patients with normal hearing and 30 healthy individuals were included in the study. Migraine characteristics and phonophobia status of migraine patients were noted.

The quest for noninvasive early markers for sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) has yielded diverse measures of interest. However, comprehensive studies evaluating the test-retest reliability of multiple measures and stimuli within a single study are scarce, and a standardized clinical protocol for robust early markers of SNHL remains elusive. To address these gaps, this study explores the intra-subject variability of various potential electroencephalogram- (EEG-) biomarkers for cochlear synaptopathy (CS) and other SNHL-markers in the same individuals.

Paracetamol is an analgesic and antipyretic medication regarded as the safest over-the-counter pain and fever relief option during pregnancy. Paracetamol and its metabolites are known to reach the developing fetus through direct placental transfer and can cross the blood brain barrier. Several recent, large-scale epidemiologic studies suggest that in utero paracetamol exposure can increase the risk of neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and developmental delay (DD).
