The linear models of brightness sensation.

Technol Health Care

Published: April 2009

An analysis and mathematical comparison of models underlying the phenomena of brightness and contrast are presented. The concept of self-excitation which has not so far been considered is introduced into the structure of the models. Mach Bands can be described by two essentially different but formally identical mechanisms. The phenomenon allows neither a functional explanation in terms of models presented heretofore nor an answer to the question whether data processing is based in the human visual system on integrating of differentiating of on both.

Introduction: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between body composition, overall survival, odds of receiving treatment, and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in individuals living with metastatic non-small-cell lung cancer (mNSCLC).

Methods: This retrospective analysis was conducted in newly diagnosed patients with mNSCLC who had computed-tomography (CT) scans and completed PRO questionnaires close to metastatic diagnosis date. Cox proportional hazard models and logistic regression evaluated overall survival and odds of receiving treatment, respectively.

Sudden gains in internet cognitive therapy for social anxiety disorder in routine clinical practice.

December 2024

Oxford Centre for Anxiety Disorders and Trauma (OxCADAT), Department of Experimental Psychology, University of Oxford, The Old Rectory, Paradise Square, Oxford OX1 1TW, UK.

Background: Sudden gains are large symptom improvements between consecutive therapy sessions. They have been shown to occur in randomised controlled trials of internet-delivered psychological interventions, but little is known about their occurrence when such treatments are delivered in routine clinical practice.

Objective: This study examined the occurrence of sudden gains in a therapist-guided internet-delivered Cognitive Therapy intervention for social anxiety disorder (iCT-SAD) delivered in the UK NHS talking therapies for anxiety and depression (formerly known as IAPT services).

Introduction Fournier's gangrene (FG) is a rapidly progressing necrotizing fasciitis. The Fournier's Gangrene Severity Index (FGSI), in conjunction with the Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI), has been used as a mortality predictor during hospitalization. Patients with diabetes have also been shown to be at an increased risk for the development of FG.

Background: Previous studies suggest that frailty increases the risk of mortality, but the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and all-cause mortality in Chinese community-dwelling older adults remains understudied. Our aim was to explore the effect of frailty on cardiovascular and all-cause mortality in older adults based on a large-scale prospective survey of community-dwelling older adults in China.

Methods: We utilized the 2014-2018 cohort of the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey and constructed a frailty index (FI) to assess frailty status.
