Yuzu ( Citrus junos Sieb. ex Tanaka), a tree-grown fruit similar to a kind of sour orange, is widely used in Japanese food/cooking for its pleasant flavor. To clarify the odor-active volatiles that differentiate yuzu from other citrus fruits, sensory evaluations were conducted on yuzu peel oil. The results revealed that the polar part of yuzu peel oil was the source of the characteristic aroma of fresh yuzu fruit. By aroma extract dilution analysis (AEDA) of the polar volatile part of yuzu peel oil, seven odorants were newly identified as odor-active volatiles in yuzu peel oil in the highest flavor dilution (FD) factors of 128 and 32: oct-1-en-3-one, (E)-non-4-enal, (E)-dec-4-enal, 4-methyl-4-mercaptopentan-2-one, (E)-non-6-enal, (6Z,8E)-undeca-6,8,10-trien-3-one (Yuzunone), and (6Z,8E)-undeca-6,8,10-trien-4-ol (Yuzuol). Among the most odor-active volatiles in yuzu, (E)-non-6-enal and Yuzunone were identified for the first time solely in yuzu peel oil and not in the peel of other citrus species, and Yuzuol was identified for the first time in nature. Sensory evaluation of yuzu aroma reconstitutions revealed that the newly identified compound, Yuzunone, contributes greatly to the distinct yuzu aroma.

Purpose: Human amniotic membrane (hAM) grafts have been used to close persistent macular holes in recent years. The results from these surgeries are promising with improved closure rate and vision. However, there is lack of data for what happens to these membranes and how long the tissue should remain inside the patient's eyes.

The oil film formed by the adhesion of crude oil to the resin-asphalt adsorption layer is difficult to peel off due to the strong oil-solid interaction, which severely limits further improvements in oil recovery. Although conventional compound oil displacement systems can effectively reduce oil-water interfacial tension, facilitate oil droplet deformation, and alleviate the Jamin effect, they are insufficient in controlling the wettability of oleophilic rock surfaces. In this paper, sodium nonylphenol polyoxyethylene ether sulfate (NPES) and sodium lauric acid ethanolamine sulfonate (HLDEA) were compounded to construct an efficient oil displacement system that simultaneously achieves wettability control of lipophilic surfaces and ultralow oil-water interfacial tension.

Citrus peel essential oils (CPEOs) have demonstrated substantial medicinal potential for glioblastoma treatment because of their extensive antitumor effects, low potential for drug resistance, and ability to cross the human blood-brain barrier. In this study, the chemical compositions of five CPEOs were analyzed via gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). CCK8 assays were used to evaluate the ability of five CPEOs to inhibit U251 human glioblastoma cells, and XLB and RA were selected for further investigation.

The objective of this research is to develop a natural macromolecules-based smart double-layer film using carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) film containing pomegranate peel anthocyanins (PPA) and cellulose acetate nanofibers (CANFs) with Artemisia sieberi Besser essential oil-loaded nanostructured lipid carriers (ABNLCs). Based on the performance as a color indicator, and other studied properties, the CMC/PPA 8 % film was selected as the optimized film. The double-layer film was constructed by electrospinning the CANFs containing ABNLCs on the optimized CMC film.

Despite intense investigation on the subject, the information available on the antioxidant capacity of natural coumarins and furanocoumarins is controversial. In the present study the antioxidant capacity of 19 pure naturally occurring compounds, among which 5 coumarins and 14 furanocoumarins is determined, using both the coulometrically determined antioxidant capacity (CDAC) and linear sweep voltammetry (LSV). None of the coumarins and furanocoumarins assayed exhibited appreciable scavenging activity against the DPPH radical.
