To investigate the molecular characteristics of bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccines, the complete genomic sequence of Mycobacterium bovis BCG Tokyo 172 was determined, and the results were compared with those for BCG Pasteur and other M. tuberculosis complex. The genome of BCG Tokyo had a length of 4,371,711bp and contained 4033 genes, including 3950 genes coding for proteins (CDS). There were 18 regions of difference (showing differences of more than 20bp), 20 insertion or deletion (ins/del) mutations of less than 20bp, and 68 SNPs between the two BCG substrains. These findings are useful for better understanding of the genetic differences in BCG substrains due to in vitro evolution of BCG.

We developed a deep learning-based extraction of electrocardiographic (ECG) waves from ballistocardiographic (BCG) signals and explored their use in R-R interval (RRI) estimation. Preprocessed BCG and reference ECG signals were inputted into the bidirectional long short-term memory network to train the model to minimize the loss function of the mean squared error between the predicted ECG (pECG) and genuine ECG signals. Using a dataset acquired with polyvinylidene fluoride and ECG sensors in different recumbent positions from 18 participants, we generated pECG signals from preprocessed BCG signals using the learned model and evaluated the RRI estimation performance by comparing the predicted RRI with the reference RRI obtained from the ECG signal using a leave-one-subject-out cross-validation scheme.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis causes human tuberculosis. As mycobacteria are protected by thick lipid cell wall, humans have developed immune responses against diverse mycobacterial lipids. Most of these immunostimulatory lipids are known as adjuvants acting through innate immune receptors, such as C-type lectin receptors.

Blood pressure (BP) measurement is a major physiological information for people with cardiovascular diseases, such as hypertension, heart failure, and atherosclerosis. Moreover, elders and patients with kidney disease and diabetes mellitus also are suggested to measure their BP every day. The cuffless BP measurement has been developed in the past 10 years, which is comfortable to users.

Ballistocardiogram (BCG) captures minute vibrations generated by heart movements. These vibrations are converted into heart rate variability (HRV) indices, allowing their unobtrusive monitoring over extended periods, while reducing the burden on patients or subjects. In this study, to evaluate the agreement between the HRV indices, we compared the HRV indices estimated from the BCG device with those obtained from the gold standard electrocardiogram (ECG).
