Indoor air pollution has recently become a public concern in Taiwan. People recognize that indoor air quality (IAQ) may be more important than outdoor air quality because they spend over 80% of their time indoors. IAQ could affect health and comfort of building occupants. The objectives of this study are (1) to characterize the indoor concentrations of selected air pollutants at two hospitals in Hsinchu, Taiwan, (2) to evaluate the potential indoor sources of pollutants in these selected hospitals and their indoor/outdoor relationships, and (3) to compare pollutant concentrations with values published in other studies. A significant between-hospital difference in average indoor concentration of nitrogen dioxide and 54.14, 32.69 ppb for Hospital A and B, respectively (p < 0.05). Indoor nitrogen dioxide concentration was significantly positively correlated with outdoor nitrogen dioxide concentration, PM(10) concentration, and traffic flow (r = 0.91, 0.65 and 0.72, respectively). The ozone level was also lower in our hospitals than 30 ppb standard.

Two-chamber microbial fuel cell (MFC) with biogas slurry (BS) of corn stover as the anode substrate and as the cathode substrate was investigated to solve the problem of the accumulation of wastewater generated from biogas plants and to achieve low-cost separation of CO from biogas. A simple two-compartment MFC was constructed using biocatalysis and inexpensive materials without expensive catalysts. The performance of MFC (X1-W, Y1-W, Z1-W) with different biogas solution concentrations as anode substrate and MFC (X2-C, Y2-C, Z2-C) with as biocathode were compared, respectively.

Nitrate pollution poses severe risks to aquatic ecosystems and human health. The electrocatalytic nitrate reduction reaction (NITRR) offers a promising environmental and economic solution for nitrate pollution treatment and nitrogen source recovery; however, it continues to experience limited efficiency in neutral electrolytes. This study aimed to evaluate the concentrations of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and nitrogen oxides (NOX) around the Qom (a province in Iran) combined cycle power plant in relation to seasonal variations and fuel type from December 2014 to May 2015. Passive sampling was used in three monitoring sites around the power plant to assess noncarcinogenic health risks associated with exposure to SO2 and NOX. Results showed the higher concentrations of NOX and SO2 in winter than in spring.
