We aimed to develop a double-injection model of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) in rabbits and to evaluate it as a tool for investigating post-ICH brain injury. Rabbits were injected with 300microL fresh autologous whole blood into the right basal ganglia. Behavioral changes were rated, brain water content (BWC) was measured and brain tissue morphology was also examined. ICH was established in 93.5% of the blood injection group. At 1, 3 and 7 days after ICH, there were significant differences in the total neurological scores (p<0.01) and BWC (p<0.01) between a sham-operated group and the ICH group. These findings suggest that the model produces a persistent neurological deficit, hematoma volume and perihematomal edema and closely mimics human hypertensive basal ganglia ICH; it is a controllable and reproducible hematoma that lends itself to quantitative investigation.

Anatomical evaluation of the superficial parasternal intercostal plane block.

Background And Objectives: Few cadaveric studies have evaluated the dye spread with superficial parasternal intercostal plane (SPIP) blocks. In this study, we examined the dye spread of an ultrasound-guided SPIP block in a human cadaveric model with single and double injection techniques.

Methods: Seven single and four double ultrasound-guided SPIP blocks were performed in seven unembalmed human cadavers using an in-plane approach with the transducer oriented parasagitally 1 cm lateral to the sternum.

Aim: To evaluate the effects of the combination of nimodipine and dexamethasone in subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).

Material And Methods: In this study, 35 female adult Wistar Albino rats were randomly assigned to four groups: Sham (n=8), SAH with no treatment (n=9), SAH with nimodipine (n=9, oral gavage, 12 mg/kg, BID) treatment, and SAH with combined therapy with nimodipine and dexamethasone (n=9, intraperitoneally, 1mg/kg, BID). The "cisterna magna double injection of autologous blood" model was used.

Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC), Departamento de Cirurgia, Florianópolis, SC, Brazil.

Introduction: This study aimed to assess the learning curves of peribulbar anesthesia and estimate the number of blocks needed to attain proficiency.

Methods: Anonymized records of sequential peribulbar blocks performed by first-year anesthesia residents were analyzed. The block sequential number and the outcomes were extracted from each record.

A rate-of-injection model for predicting single and double injection with or without fusion.

Models used to predict the instantaneous injected fuel mass are of varied interest in automotive applications, including for providing inputs to CFD calculations or for engine control. While multiple injection strategies are now commonly used in diesel engines, the overall approach may be susceptible to injection fusion, which is defined as two successive injections that are partly or totally coupled due to the short time interval between each event. In this work, a new model to predict the instantaneous mass flow rate from a diesel injector is proposed based on the analytical solution of a first-order linear dynamic system exposed to an impulsion.

Nonlocal spin polarization phenomena are thoroughly investigated in the devices made of chiral metallic single crystals of CrNb3S6 and NbSi2 as well as of polycrystalline NbSi2. We demonstrate that simultaneous injection of charge currents in the opposite ends of the device with the nonlocal setup induces the switching behavior of spin polarization in a controllable manner. Such a nonlocal spin polarization appears regardless of the difference in the materials and device dimensions, implying that the current injection in the nonlocal configuration splits spin-dependent chemical potentials throughout the chiral crystal even though the current is injected into only a part of the crystal.
