Purpose: A quarter of ICU-patients develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after discharge. These patients could benefit from early detection of PTSD. Therefore, we explored the accuracy of text mining with self-narratives to identify intensive care unit (ICU) patients and surviving relatives at risk of PTSD in a pilot study.

Selection of In Vivo Relevant Dissolution Test Parameters for the Development of Cannabidiol Formulations with Enhanced Oral Bioavailability.

Pharmaceutics

January 2025

Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmacy, Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Medicines (CIRM), University of Liège, 4000 Liège, Belgium.

Cannabidiol (CBD) shows interesting therapeutic properties but has yet to demonstrate its full potential in clinical trials partly due to its low solubility in physiologic media. Two different formulations of CBD (amorphous and lipid-based) have been optimized and enable an increase in bioavailability in piglets. In vivo studies are time-consuming, costly and life-threatening.

This study investigated silicone composites with distributed boron nitride platelets and carbon microfibers that are oriented electrically. The process involved homogenizing and dispersing nano/microparticles in the liquid polymer, aligning the particles with DC and AC electric fields, and curing the composite with IR radiation to trap particles within chains. This innovative concept utilized two fields to align particles, improving the even distribution of carbon microfibers among BN in the chains.

: Previous works on the epidemiology of pediatric trauma during the COVID-19 lockdown observed a decrease in pediatric surgical emergency consultations and fracture referrals. None of those works describes a unique situation in which there is the coexistence of another opposing factor, like an earthquake, that influences the number of injured children's referrals. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the influence of earthquakes during the COVID-19 lockdown on pediatric injury pattern referrals at a tertiary care hospital in a urban setting.

Daytime radiative cooling, based on selective infrared emissions through atmospheric transparency windows to outer space and the reflection of solar irradiance, is a zero-energy and environmentally friendly cooling technology. Poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) electrospun membranes have both selective mid-infrared emissions and effective sunlight reflection, inducing excellent daytime radiative cooling performance. However, PEO is highly water soluble, which makes electrospun PEO membranes unable to cope with rainy conditions when used for outdoor daytime radiative cooling.
