Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate differences in 90-day clinical outcomes between patients treated with generic volar locking plates (VLPs) and conventional VLPs in distal radius fractures. Secondary aims included assessing for differences in surgical characteristics and cost between the groups.
Methods: From November 2022 to April 2023, a prospective block-randomized study was undertaken in which surgeons alternated between using a generic VLP and a conventional VLP each month.

Open reduction and internal fixation of distal radius fractures is one of the most common procedures performed in wrist surgery. The use of volar locking plate has gained increasing interest in the past decade. Epiphyseal fixation can be done either with locking screws or smooth locking pegs, with no evidence supporting the use of one rather than the other.

The control group comprised 7 cadaveric specimens with threaded locking pegs, and the test group comprised 7 cadaveric specimens from the same donor with smooth locking pegs. The DVR plate (Biomet, Warsaw, Indiana) was applied to the volar surface.

Purpose: In the setting of severely comminuted diaphyseal-metaphyseal fractures of the distal radius, arthroscopic reduction of the joint surface is difficult and often results in shortening and collapse. Yet, several authors have shown the benefits of arthroscopy in articular distal radius fractures. We present a method that safely allows a combination of arthroscopic reduction and rigid fixation and describe the outcomes in a small group of patients.
