Honeybee colony survival has significantly decreased in many countries over recent decades, which has been associated with multiple factors including pathogens, parasites, resource availability, and environmental stressors, with agricultural intensification playing a key role. This study assessed the effects of Varroa destructor mite infestation, viral prevalence and load, and agrochemical concentrations in the hive matrix on colony strength in two apiaries located in different agricultural contexts (intensive vs traditional) in Northwestern Italy from March to September 2021. The results revealed that colonies in the intensively managed area exhibited lower colony strength and higher mortality rates.

Micellar catalysis is becoming an increasingly versatile tool to carry out a wide range of organic transformations using water as the reaction medium. The approach was recently found to be effective also in the case of water sensitive organics such as acyl chlorides. This finding is of great relevance for the manufacturing of challenging substrates such as the known iodinated contrast agent iopamidol, requiring the use of aprotic dipolar solvents (DMF, NMP, DMAc) in the key amidation step of an acyl dichloride intermediate with serinol.

Article Synopsis
  • Adults with type 2 diabetes face challenges in healthy eating due to social factors and often experience poor health outcomes.
  • The study involved a pilot trial where one group received medically tailored meals and nutrition support, while the control group continued with usual care to evaluate changes in diabetes management.
  • Both groups saw similar improvements in blood sugar levels, but the intervention group significantly reduced food insecurity, indicating the potential benefits of tailored meal support for vulnerable populations.
