Intentionality is briefly explored from the perspective of seminal written works on therapeutic touch and recorded conversations with Martha E. Rogers. This overview hints at possible interrelationships among intentionality, consciousness, and creating community, along with conceptual ambiguities, which are explored in detail by Zahourek and Larkin in this column.

This article presents a refinement of theoretical explanations of the main stages of linguistic and cognitive evolution in anthropogenesis. The concepts of language, consciousness, self-consciousness, the self, the unconscious, the subconscious, and the relation between free will and determinism remain at the center of active and complex debates in philosophy and neuroscience. A basic theoretical apparatus comprising the central concepts of "concern" and "providing structure" (an extension of the biological concept of "adaptation") develops the paradigm of the extended evolutionary synthesis.

Objectives: Methadone is a long-acting synthetic agonist of opioid receptors, which is used as an analgesic and as an alternative treatment in opioid-dependent patients. Clinical manifestations of methadone poisoning include miotic pupils, low levels of consciousness (LOC), respiratory depression or apnea, and coma and death. Considering the high consumption of methadone in society and the prevalent instances of overdose and poisoning, whether accidental or intentional, the authors decided to investigate the clinico-epidemiological, diagnostic, and therapeutic characteristics of methadone poisoning in the Mazandaran province, northern Iran, from 2020 to 2022.
