A two gene model has been proposed to explain the inheritance of coeliac disease (CD). One gene is on chromosome 6 in the MHC complex (HLA associated). It has been suggested the second gene is located on chromosome 14, in or near the region encoding for immunoglobulin heavy chain allotypes (Gm types). In a study of 102 unrelated Irish coeliacs and a group of ethnic controls, we have failed to show an association of CD with any particular Gm type or types. There is no evidence to confirm that a gene on chromosome 14 is implicated in the inheritance of CD.

Background: Klebsiella pneumoniae is one of the most prevalent pathogens responsible for multiple infections in healthcare settings and the community. K. pneumoniae CG147, primarily including ST147 (the founder ST), ST273, and ST392, is one of the most globally successful MDR clone linked to various carbapenemases.

Background: The causes of breast cancer are poorly understood. A potential risk factor is Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), a lifelong infection nearly everyone acquires. EBV-transformed human mammary cells accelerate breast cancer when transplanted into immunosuppressed mice, but the virus can disappear as malignant cells reproduce.

Transcriptional regulation governs gene expression levels, primarily controlled by "cis-acting DNA elements" and "trans-acting protein factors". However, the conventional view that cis-regulation is solely attributable to DNA elements is challenged in this study. Our research indicates that transposon-derived proteins may retain their original DNA-binding preference and exert cis-regulatory effects on nearby genes on the chromosome, thus denoted as "cis-acting factors".

Twenty-nine GRAS genes were identified in passion fruit, the N-terminal regions and 3D (three-dimensional) structures were closely related with their tissue-specific expression patterns. Candidate PeGRASs for enhancing stress resistance were identified. Passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims) is a tropical fruit crop with significant edible and ornamental value, but its growth and development are highly sensitive to environmental conditions.
