Introduction: A new protocol for investigation of vocal fold palsy (VFP) was introduced in the ENT-department, Odense University Hospital on 1 January 2002. The protocol included ultrasonography (US) of the neck, x-ray of the chest and clinical examination at 3-month intervals for 1 year as well as MRI scanning of the brainstem, neck and mediastinum initially and after 6 months (or CT scanning under special circumstances). We have evaluated our protocol for investigation and in particular with regard to efficiency of diagnostic methods and the effect of long-term follow-up.
Material And Methods: From 1 January 2002 to 30 June 2002 we investigated 48 patients with VFP of occult origin in our department. We reviewed medical records and registered and analyzed data regarding efficiency of diagnostic methods and the effect of follow-up.
Results: Ten out of 48 VFP (21%) proved to be caused by malignancy. Eight VFP had other causes and 30 were idiopathic. Nine out of ten malignant diseases were found during initial investigation. One patient was diagnosed with breast cancer and widespread metastases 10 months after initial investigation.
Conclusion: An extensive protocol for investigation of VFP is indicated. In our opinion, a protocol should include US, CT or MRI scanning of brainstem, neck and mediastinum. Our material is too limited to draw any final conclusions concerning long-term follow-up.

Background: Melasma, a common skin pigmentation disease, can negatively impact patients' mental health, social interactions, and physical appearance. Although we now have several treatments accessible, such as medicines, chemical peels, and phototherapy, which can help ease symptoms to some extent, the requirement for a long-term effective and safe treatment for patients is far from met. In the face of this problem, microneedling, as an innovative treatment, provides a new avenue for treating melasma.

Unlabelled: The scientific and practical interest in studying the biomechanical characteristics of the lens capsule, on the one hand, is associated with its anatomical significance in modern microinvasive phaco surgery, and on the other hand, with investigation of the mechanisms of lens curvature changes during accommodation. Selective study of the biomechanical properties of the lens capsule aims to identify characteristics of various regions and surfaces of the capsule.
Purpose: This study is a comparative analysis of age-related changes in the biomechanical properties of the anterior (AC) and posterior (PC) lens capsules in humans.

The immune system has garnered attention due to its association with disease progression in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). However, the role of peripheral immune cells in this context remains controversial. Here, we conducted single-cell RNA-sequencing of peripheral blood mononuclear cells to comprehensively profile immune cells concerning the rate of disease progression in patients with ALS.

The genus Flaveria has been studied extensively as a model for the evolution of C photosynthesis. Thus far, molecular analyses in this genus have been limited due to a dearth of genomic information and the lack of a rapid and efficient transformation protocol. Since their development, Agrobacterium-mediated transient transformation protocols have been instrumental in understanding many biological processes in a range of plant species.

Objective: He Shi Yu Lin Formula (HSYLF) is a clinically proven prescription for treating premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), and has shown a good curative effect. However, its molecular mechanisms are unclear. This study aimed to investigate the molecular mechanisms of HSYLF and clarify how network pharmacology analysis guides the design of animal experiments, including the selection of effective treatment doses and key targets, to ensure the relevance of the experimental results.
