Two types of new chrysin derivatives were prepared by coupling NO donors of alkyl nitrate and furazan derivatives and were fully characterized by (1)H NMR and other techniques. These compounds were tested in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs-12) and all the compounds exhibited cell proliferation. Notable effects of promoting angiogenesis were observed for all the modified compounds using chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay.

Food-derived components with physiological effects have been attracting attention in recent years, and studies have comprehensively analyzed these components. In this study, we sought to identify food components with functional properties for the prevention and improvement of metabolic syndrome. We performed a luciferase reporter assay using fatty acid synthase (FAS) and low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDL) receptor gene promoters.

Inducible cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) is a crucial enzyme involved in the processes of inflammation and carcinogenesis, primarily by catalyzing the production of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), a significant mediator of inflammation. In this study, we designed and synthesized a series of novel chrysin derivatives to evaluate their anti-inflammatory potential through COX-2 inhibition using cultures of RAW264.7 macrophages and molecular docking assays.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers improved pinocembrin production in E. coli by enhancing the supply of necessary building blocks, achieving 353 mg/L without additional precursor requirements.
  • They found specific enzymes that increased production of related flavonoids, including chrysin and pinostrobin, with the highest yields coming from selected candidate enzymes from different plant sources.

: The beneficial effects of the flavonoid chrysin can be reduced by its poor oral bioavailability. It has been shown that chrysin-8-C-glucoside () has a better absorption capability. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of this glucoside, as well as the respective hexa-acetate derivative and the hexa-ethyl carbonate derivative since the inclusion of moieties in bioactive molecules may increase or modify their biological effects.
