The use of lasers in dentistry has expanded and improved some treatment options for those clinicians who have adopted the technology. As with all dental materials and instruments, the practitioner must use clinical experience, receive proper training, become very familiar with the operating manual, and proceed within the scope of his or her practice. The potential purchaser should carefully analyze the style and type of the practice to decide how useful the device could be. Moreover, attending introductory courses, seminars, and presentations, such as those at the aforementioned Academy of Laser Dentistry's Annual Conference, or at various state and national scientific sessions, are essential before buying. Because of the varied composition of human tissue and the differing ways that laser energy is absorbed, there is no single perfect laser. However, our patients continue to agree that the dental laser is a wonderful instrument.

The detailed mechanism of photoinduced decarboxylative radical addition to alkenes using both the effect of an electron donor (ED)/electron acceptor (EA) and laser flash photolysis in a two-molecule photoredox system was investigated. The concentration of EA played an important role in the photoreaction and could be controlled by varying the concentrations of ED/EA and their identity, which influenced Δ. Higher concentrations of ED/EA and a larger negative Δ led to a higher concentration of EA, thereby increasing the yield of the adduct; however, the large negative Δ for the generation of the EDA complex hindered decarboxylation.

Mucosal healing is the mainstream goal of modern treat-to-target strategy as it is associated with a significantly more favorable disease course in IBD patients with either ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease. Recent advances in endoscopic imaging technologies have overcome the traditional concept of mucosal healing assessed with conventional white light imaging, allowing for multiple levels of endoscopic healing up to the boundaries of molecular and functional evaluation. In this review, we focused on conventional and emerging strategies to assess endoscopic healing in ulcerative colitis and ileocolonic Crohn's disease, examining their pros and cons in real life practice.
