White-light crosslinkable milk protein bioadhesive with ultrafast gelation for first-aid wound treatment.

Biomater Res

February 2023

Institute of Dairy Science, College of Animal Sciences, Zhejiang University, 310058, Hangzhou, China.

Background: Post-traumatic massive hemorrhage demands immediately available first-aid supplies with reduced operation time and good surgical compliance. In-situ crosslinking gels that are flexibly adapting to the wound shape have a promising potential, but it is still hard to achieve fast gelation, on-demand adhesion, and wide feasibility at the same time.

Methods: A white-light crosslinkable natural milk-derived casein hydrogel bioadhesive is presented for the first time.

Visual Detection of Multiple Nucleic Acids in a Capillary Array.

J Vis Exp

November 2017

Key Laboratory of Systems Biomedicine (Ministry of Education), Shanghai Center for Systems Biomedicine, Shanghai Jiao Tong University; State Key Laboratory of Oncogenes and Related Genes; School of Biomedical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University;

Multi-target, short time, and resource-affordable methodologies for the detection of multiple nucleic acids in a single, easy to operate test are urgently needed in disease diagnosis, microbial monitoring, genetically modified organism (GMO) detection, and forensic analysis. We have previously described the platform called CALM (Capillary Array-based Loop-mediated isothermal amplification for Multiplex visual detection of nucleic acids). Herein, we describe improved fabrication and performance processes for this platform.

Previous proteomic studies revealed that intravitreous clusterin was decreased in diabetic retinopathy (DR) patients. We explored the role of clusterin in reduction of both blood retina barrier (BRB) breakdown and neural retina damage in early DR. Immunofluorescent staining of proliferated diabetic retinopathy (PDR) membranes was performed to detect endogenous clusterin, and intravitreous injection of clusterin (CLU group) or PBS (DR group) to streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats was conducted.

Introduction: Individuals with chronic conditions often experience exacerbation of those conditions and have specialized medical needs after a disaster. Less is known about the level of disaster preparedness of this particular population and the extent to which being prepared might have an impact on the risk of disease exacerbation. The purpose of this study was to examine the association between self-reported asthma, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes and levels of household disaster preparedness.
