Published: September 2008

Six new sesquiterpenes having the botryane carbon skeleton (1-6), together with known compounds (7-10) were induced and isolated from the ascomycete Daldinia concentrica (strain S 0318). Structures elucidation was accomplished by NMR spectroscopic and X-ray crystallographic studies.

Fungi are a source of a variety of secondary metabolites of importance in different areas of biotechnology. Several compounds have been characterized with antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory activity from fungi of the division of the Ascomycota, among which is the species , an endophyte fungus of pantropical distribution. In this study, we evaluated the effect of an ointment made with on the wound healing of BALB/c mice.

Five new naphthalene derivatives dalesconosides A-D, F (-, ), a known synthetic analogue named dalesconoside E (), and eighteen known compounds (-) were isolated from MCZ-18, which is an endophytic fungus obtained from the Chinese mangrove plant . Differing from previously reported naphthalenes, compounds and were bearing a rare ribofuranoside substituted at C-1 and the 5-methyltetrahydrofuran-2,3-diol moiety, respectively. Their structures were determined by detailed nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and mass spectroscopic (MS) analyses, while the absolute configurations were established by theoretical electronic circular dichroism (ECD) calculation.

The endolichenic fungi are an unexplored group of organisms for the production of bioactive secondary metabolites. The aim of the present study is to determine the antibacterial potential of endolichenic fungi isolated from genus Parmotrema. The study is continuation of our previous work, wherein a total of 73 endolichenic fungi were isolated from the lichenized fungi, which resulted in 47 species under 23 genera.

The antagonistic coculture with tea phytopathogen induces antifungal cryptic metabolites from isogenesis endophyte against tea phytopathogens. Sixteen new polyketides with six structural frameworks including ten cryptic ones, named coldaldols A-C (-), collediol (), and daldinrins A-L (- and ), were found from the coculture of and by different culture methods. The unique framework of compounds and featured a benzopyran-C polyketone hybrid, and compounds - were characterized by the novel benzopyran dimer.

Daldipyrenones A-C (-), three unprecedented caged xanthone [6,6,6,6,6] polyketides featuring a spiro-azaphilone unit, were discovered from an endolichenic fungus, 047188. The structures of - were determined by using spectroscopic analysis and chemical derivatization. Daldipyrenones are likely derived by combining a chromane biosynthesis intermediate, 1-(2,6-dihydroxyphenyl)but-2-en-2-one, and a spiro-azaphilone, pestafolide A, via radical coupling or Michael addition to form a bicyclo[2.
