The structure of ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase (Rubisco) subunit-binding protein and its interaction with pea leaf chloroplast Rubisco were studied by electron microscopy and image analysis. Electron-microscopic evidence for the association of Rubisco subunit-binding protein, consisting of 14 subunits arranged with 72 point group symmetry, and oligomeric (L8S8) Rubisco was obtained.

Shotgun label-free proteomic and biochemical study of somatic embryos (cotyledonary and maturation stage) in (L.) G. Don.

Cellular Differentiation and Molecular Genetics Section, Department of Botany, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi, India.

Somatic embryogenesis is an important and wonderful biotechnological tool used to develop whole plant from a single or a group of somatic cells. The differentiated somatic cells become totipotent stem cells by drastic reprogramming of a wide range of cellular activities, leading to the acquisition of embryogenic competence. After acquiring competence, the cells pass through globular, heart, torpedo and cotyledonary stages of embryo; however, all advanced embryos do not convert into full plant, produce adventive embryos or callus instead, thus reverses the programming.

Background: Salinity is a major environmental limiting factor, which affect agricultural production. The two seedlings ( and ) with high economic importance, could not adapt well to higher soil salinity and little is known about their proteomic mechanisms.

Objectives: The mechanisms responsible for the effects of salinity on the two species leaves were examined by means of proteomic analysis.

Maize proteomic responses to separate or overlapping soil drought and two-spotted spider mite stresses.

Planta

Section of Applied Entomology, Faculty of Horticulture, Biotechnology and Landscape Architecture, Warsaw University of Life Sciences-SGGW, 159 Nowoursynowska, 02-776, Warsaw, Poland.

In maize, leaf proteome responses evoked by soil drought applied separately differ from those evoked by mite feeding or both types of stresses occurring simultaneously. This study focuses on the involvement of proteomic changes in defence responses of a conventional maize cultivar (Bosman) to the two-spotted spider mite infestation, soil drought and both stresses coexisting for 6 days. Under watering cessation or mite feeding applied separately, the protein carbonylation was not directly linked to the antioxidant enzymes' activities.

The drought-tolerant 'Ningchun 47' (NC47) and drought-sensitive 'Chinese Spring' (CS) wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars were treated with different PEG6000 concentrations at the three-leaf stage. An analysis on the physiological and proteomic changes of wheat seedling in response to drought stress was performed.

Cytoplasmic male sterility (CMS), widely used in the production of hybrid seeds, is a maternally inherited trait resulting in a failure to produce functional pollen. In order to identify some specific proteins associated with CMS in pepper, two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) was applied to proteomic analysis of anthers/buds between a CMS line (designated NA3) and its maintainer (designated NB3) in Capsicum annuum L. Thirty-three spots showed more than 1.
