Objectives: To evaluate the association of thyroid immunity with cardiovascular symptoms and body mass index (BMI).

Methods: Four hundred and sixty-five primary care patients underwent ultrasound evaluation of the thyroid gland, with hypo-echoic thyroid pattern indicating autoimmune involvement. BMI and blood pressure (BP) were the main outcomes.

Results: Men and women with hypo-echoic thyroid had higher BMI and higher BP in comparison to patients with normo-echoic thyroid. Among women with hypo-echoic thyroid, only those who were premenopausal had higher BMI and higher BP in comparison to women with normo-echoic thyroid.

Conclusions: Thyroid immunity is related to higher BMI and higher BP in men and women, especially in premenopausal women.

Background: Heat shock proteins have been implicated in the process of carcinogenesis. HSPA14, a member of the heat shock protein family, remains poorly understood in terms of its significance and pathomechanisms in breast cancer.

Methods: We analyzed the expression levels of HSPA14 and its prognostic significance in breast cancer using TCGA data.

Tunable ion-release biodegradable nanoparticles enhanced pyroptosis for tumor immunotherapy.

Biomaterials

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry, Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fuzhou, 350002, China. Electronic address:

Pyroptosis is an effective strategy for inducing inflammatory responses in 'cold' tumors, boosting the efficacy of immunotherapy. Although biodegradable inorganic nanoparticles (BINPs) show great potential in pyroptosis by releasing ions to break intracellular homeostasis, the limited intracellular ion release efficiency restricts pyroptosis level and subsequent immune activation. Herein, by heterovalent substitution strategy, a series of NaZrF:x%Yb (NZF:x%Yb, x = 0, 9, and 18) BINPs with tunable intracellular ion release efficiency are synthesized for enhanced pyroptosis and tumor immunotherapy.

Construction of the bromodomain-containing protein-associated prognostic model in triple-negative breast cancer.

Cancer Cell Int

January 2025

Department of Breast Surgery, Fujian Provincial Hospital, Shengli Clinical Medical College of Fuiian Medical University, Fuzhou University Affiliated Provincial Hospital, Fuzhou, 350001, China.

Background: Bromodomain-containing protein (BRD) play a pivotal role in the development and progression of malignant tumours. This study aims to identify prognostic genes linked to BRD-related genes (BRDRGs) in patients with triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and to construct a novel prognostic model.

Methods: Data from TCGA-TNBC, GSE135565, and GSE161529 were retrieved from public databases.

Nr4a1 and Nr4a3 redundantly control clonal deletion and contribute to an anergy-like transcriptome in auto-reactive thymocytes to impose tolerance in mice.

Nat Commun

The Nr4a nuclear hormone receptors are transcriptionally upregulated in response to antigen recognition by the T cell receptor (TCR) in the thymus and are implicated in clonal deletion, but the mechanisms by which they operate are not clear. Moreover, their role in central tolerance is obscured by redundancy among the Nr4a family members and by their reported functions in Treg generation and maintenance. Here we take advantage of competitive bone marrow chimeras and the OT-II/RIPmOVA model to show that Nr4a1 and Nr4a3 are essential for the upregulation of Bcl2l11/BIM and thymic clonal deletion by self-antigen.
