Hydroxyurea treatment is efficiently used to ameliorate the clinical course of patients affected with sickle cell disease. To understand the patient's wide variation in the clinical response to that drug and monitor its plasma levels, a new method was developed and validated. Fifty microL plasmatic samples containing hydroxyurea are added with internal standard, deproteinized, evaporated to dryness, silanized, and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, which operates in the selected ion mode after electron impact fragmentation. Linearity was found to extend to at least 100mg/L. Over a 1-25mg/L concentration range, coefficients of variation for intra-day and inter-day precision are 5.3% and 7.7%, respectively. Plasma blank-samples reveal endogenous hydroxyurea at a level

There is no consensus in the literature regarding the ideal protocol for obtaining and preparing cell samples for untargeted metabolomics. Nevertheless, the procedures must be carefully evaluated for proper and reliable results for each organism under study. This work proposes a novel protocol for determining intracellular metabolites in Leishmania promastigotes and is fully optimized for application in conjunction with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry platforms.

The small black stem bug, Paratibraca (= Glyphepomis) spinosa (Campos and Grazia 1998), is a rice pest in Brazil and is part of a complex of stink bugs that includes Oebalus poecilus (Dallas) and Tibraca limbativentris Stål. Together, these pentatomid species pose a serious threat to rice crops throughout South America. In this study, we identified the sex pheromone of P.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are carcinogenic compounds resulting from incomplete burning of organic materials. This work describes the successful layer-by-layer fabrication of a novel zinc oxide nanocomposite made of zinc oxide nanoparticles, aniline, sodium dodecyl sulfate, and modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes on a stainless steel wire by electrodeposition. The coating and extraction conditions were screened, optimized, and validated using factorial design and central composite design, respectively.

L. (cotton-lavender) is receiving increasing attention due to its potential for modern medicine and is considered both a functional food and nutraceutical. In this work, the phytochemical profile of its flower hydromethanolic extract was investigated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and its applications as a biorational for crop protection were explored against spp.
