Background: ID2 is a member of a subclass of transcription regulators belonging to the general bHLH (basic-helix-loop-helix) family of transcription factors. In normal cells, ID2 is responsible for regulating the balance between proliferation and differentiation. More recent studies have demonstrated that ID2 is involved in tumor progression in several cancer types such as prostate or breast.

Methodology/principal Findings: In this work, we investigated, for the first time, the relationship between the expression of ID2 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients and the clinicopathological features and prognosis of these patients. Immunohistochemistry was performed on tissue microarrays, which included 62 NSCLC tumors. In malignant tissues, ID2 expression has been detected in both the nuclear and cytoplasmic compartments, but we have demonstrated that only nuclear expression of ID2 is inversely correlated with the differentiation grade of the tumor (p = 0.007). Interestingly, among patients with poorly differentiated tumors, high nuclear expression of ID2 was an independent and unfavorable prognostic factor for survival (p = 0.036).

Conclusions: These results suggest that ID2 could be involved in tumor dedifferentiation processes of NSCLC, and could be used as prognostic marker for patients with poorly differentiated tumors.

Background: Spermatogonia are essential for the continual production of sperm and regeneration of the entire spermatogenic lineage after injury. In mammals, spermatogonia are formed in the neonatal testis from prospermatogonia (also termed gonocytes), which are established from primordial germ cells during fetal development. Currently, the molecular regulation of the prospermatogonial to spermatogonia transition is not fully understood.

Effect of hypoxia-induced mIL15 expression on expansion and memory progenitor stem-like TILs .

Front Immunol

Department of Pathogenic Biology, School of Basic Medicine, Qingdao University, Qingdao, China.

Introduction: The adoptive cell transfer of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) has proven clinically beneficial in patients with non-small cell lung cancer refractory to checkpoint blockade immunotherapy, which has prompted interest in TIL-adoptive cell transfer. The transgenic expression of IL15 can promote the expansion, survival, and function of T cells and and enhance their anti-tumor activity. The effect of expressing mIL15 regulated by hypoxia in the tumor microenvironment on the expansion, survival, and stem-like properties of TILs has not been explored.

Pectoral muscle development is an important economic trait. According to the different essence, muscle development can be divided into 2 processes: embryonic muscle fiber generation and postnatal muscle fiber hypertrophy, and postnatal muscle fiber hypertrophy has a greater impact on muscle development than the number of muscle fibers formed during the embryonic phase in poultry. However, the underlying mechanisms regulating the hypertrophy of goose pectoral muscles have not been elucidated.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the reproductive performance of water buffaloes by analyzing gene expression in granulosa cells and oocytes from follicles of varying sizes to identify key genes involved in follicle development.
  • - Researchers identified 918 transcripts from granulosa cells and 1401 from oocytes that correlated with follicle size, revealing significant expression differences and highlighting the roles of specific genes and lncRNAs in follicular growth.
  • - The findings suggest that genes like BUB1, influenced by certain lncRNAs, and others related to hormone metabolism may be crucial for improving reproductive performance in buffaloes, offering insights into the mechanisms behind follicle dominance.
