We present direct frequency comb cavity ring-down spectroscopy with Vernier filtering as a straightforward approach to sensitive and multiplexed trace gas detection. The high finesse cavity acts both to extend the interaction length with the sample and as a spectral filter, alleviating the need for dispersive elements or an interferometer. Life is invasive, occupying all physically accessible scales, stretching between almost nothing (protons, electrons, and photons) and almost everything (the whole biosphere). Motivated by seventeenth-century insights into this infinity, this paper proposes a language to discuss life as an infinite double cascade of machines making machines. Using this simplified language, we first discuss the micro-cascade proposed by Leibniz, which describes how the self-reproducing machine of the cell is built of smaller submachines down to the atomic scale.

As one of the most influential environmental factors, light fundamentally shapes plant physiology and growth traits. The hypocotyl is critical for the morphological establishment of the seedling, and its length displays remarkable plasticity upon perception of changes in the light conditions. The functional activation of the androgen receptor (AR) and its interplay with the aberrant Hh/Gli cascade are pivotal in the progression of castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) and resistance to AR-targeted therapies. Our study unveiled a novel role of the truncated form of Gli (t-Gli3) in advancing CRPC. Investigation into Gli3 regulation revealed a Smo-independent mechanism for its activation.
