Objective: To explore the clinical effects of colonic dripping with Taihuang liquid (THL) in treating neonatal hyperbilirubinemia (HBE).
Methods: One hundred and thirty-eight neonates with HBE were randomly assigned to two groups. Conventional treatment and nursing were given to both groups, and THL was given additionally to the observation group by colonic dripping.
Results: Significant differences between the observation group and the control group were shown in frequency of defecation (4.6 +/- 1.3 times/d vs 2.0 +/- 1.1 times/d), daily serum bilirubin reduction (31.5 +/- 10.1 micromol/L vs 23.3 +/- 8.3 micromol/L), and days for normalizing serum bilirubin level (5.6 +/- 3.5 d vs 7.8 +/- 4.1 d, all P < 0.01).
Conclusion: Colonic dripping of THL could promote the excretion of bilirubin, so as to decrease the level of serum bilirubin in neonates with HBE.

Background: Despite the insights into the role of aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 family member A1 (ALDH1A1) in various liver diseases, the expression and its prognostic significance in patients with hepatitis E virus-related acute liver failure (HEV-ALF) remain unclear. This study delved into the assessment of serum exosome-derived ALDH1A1 expression and its prognostic implications for HEV-ALF patients.
Methods: Between January 2018 and December 2023, a total of 226 individuals with acute hepatitis E (AHE) and 210 patients with HEV-ALF were recruited from member units of Chinese Consortium for the Study of Hepatitis E.

For the first time, a TiCT-MXene and poly (3, 4-ethylenedioxythiophene): poly (styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT: PSS) composite-modified electrode has been developed for electrochemical detection of the bilirubin (BR) by molecularly imprinted ortho-phenylenediamine (o-PD). BR is a biomarker for liver-related diseases. High levels of BR imply liver dysfunction; hence, its exact and rapid measurement is indispensable to its immediate diagnosis and treatment.

Since the establishment of the COVID-19 pandemic, a range of studies have been developed to understand the pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2 infection, vaccine development, and therapeutic testing. However, the possible impacts that these viruses can have on non-target organisms have been explored little, and our knowledge of the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic for biota is still very limited. Thus, the current study aimed to address this knowledge gap by evaluating the possible impacts of oral exposure of C57Bl/6 J female mice to SARS-CoV-2 lysate protein (at 20 µg/L) for 30 days, using multiple methods, including behavioral assessments, biochemical analyses, and histopathological examinations.

Background: The link between waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) and osteoporosis (OP) remains a contentious issue in the field of medical research. Currently, the available evidence on this association is deemed insufficient. This topic has garnered significant attention and is a focal point of ongoing investigations.

Strategic design and development of nanomaterials-based detection platforms specific to critical biomarkers like bilirubin holds immense promise for revolutionizing early disease detection. Bilirubin (BR) plays a pivotal role as a biomarker for liver function, making accurate and timely detection of BR crucial for diagnosing and monitoring of liver diseases. In this work, we synthesized blue light emitting graphene quantum dots (GQDs) via a single step pyrolysis method, which exhibited excellent photostability and biocompatibility.
