Objective: To study the clinical manifestations and surgical treatment of Type II orbital neurofibromatosis.
Methods: From Jan, 2001, to Oct, 2006, clinical data of 16 cases with type II orbital neurofibromatosis were retrospectively analyzed in the Department of Ophthalmology, Ninth People's Hospital, Medical School of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Results: All patients had orbito-temporal or intra-orbital neurofibromatosis, combined with periorbital deformities. After partial tumor resection, the orbital reconstruction and blepharoplasty were performed in the same stage. The patients were followed up for 6-12 months with no relapse. The vision was improved in 6 cases and kept the same in 10 cases. The cosmetic results were satisfactory in all cases. 5 cases were re-operated because of relapse of blepharoptosis.
Conclusions: The function and appearance can be markedly improved after one-stage partial tumor resection, orbital reconstruction and blepharoplasty in patients with type II orbital neurofibromatosis.

Presented herein is a DFT/TDDFT study of -tetrakis(4-hydroxyphenyl)porphyrin (H[THPP]) and its -deprotonated tetraanionic form; the latter was modeled as both a free tetraanion and with various counterions. Based on our calculations, the experimentally observed hyperporphyrin spectra are attributed to an admixture of phenol/phenoxide character into the a-type HOMO of tetraphenylporphyrin. The admixture results in an elevation of the orbital energy of the HOMO in relation to other frontier orbitals, which accounts for the observed spectral redshifts.

Background: Endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) is a minimally invasive procedure indicated for medically refractory chronic sinusitis (CRS). As with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks and complications.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to report skull base, orbital, and hemorrhagic-associated complication rates following ESS.

This work presents the design and validation of a thermal subsystem for a 1U CubeSat-type nanosatellite. The design encompasses two stages: regulating the satellite's temperature range through implementing passive control based on multilayer coatings and an electronic board capable of measuring the internal surface temperature of each of the satellite's six faces. Validation is conducted through tests performed in a theoretical thermo vacuum chamber that provides a controlled environment, simulating the thermal conditions to which the satellite will be exposed once in orbit.

The combination of an in-plane honeycomb potential and of a photonic spin-orbit coupling (SOC) emulates a photonic or polaritonic analog of bilayer graphene. We show that modulating the SOC magnitude allows us to change the overall lattice periodicity, emulating any type of moiré-arranged bilayer graphene with unique all-optical access to the moiré band topology. We show that breaking the time-reversal symmetry by an effective exciton-polariton Zeeman splitting opens a large topological gap in the array of moiré flat bands.

Spaceflight-induced multi-organ dysfunction affects the health of astronauts and the safety of in-orbit flight. However, the effect of microgravity on the kidney and the underlying mechanisms are unknown. In the current study, we used a hindlimb unweighting (HU) animal model to simulate microgravity and employed histological analysis, ischemia-reperfusion experiments, renal ultrasonography, bioinformatics analysis, isometric force measurement, and other molecular experimental settings to evaluate the effects of microgravity on the kidneys and the underlying mechanisms involved in this transition.
