The requirement of bovine herpesvirus type 1 (BoHV-1) envelope protein gE (Us8 homolog) for establishment of latency and reactivation in trigeminal ganglia (TG) was examined. Although BHV-1 gE-rescued and gE-deleted viruses were isolated from nasal or ocular swabs during primary infection, only the gE-rescued virus was isolated following dexamethasone-induced reactivation. Furthermore, gC protein expression, which requires viral DNA replication for its expression, was detected in TG of calves infected with either virus following reactivation. These studies suggest that gE is required for anterograde transport of BoHV-1 from neuronal cell bodies in the TG to their nerve processes.

Recently, we identified bovine herpesvirus 5 (BoHV-5) in a vaginal swab from aborted cattle. It was unusual in two aspects: first, its association with abortion (it is otherwise mainly associated with encephalitis), and second, it is the first report from India (as it is mostly restricted to South American countries). In this study, we conducted the genome sequencing of the BoHV-5 isolate and provided insights into its phylogenetic relationships with other BoHV-5 strains.

Background: Infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) is a global contagious respiratory disease of ruminants caused by Bovine Herpes virus-1 (BoHV-1). It causes substantial financial losses in the dairy industry worldwide and is considered one of the most important causative agents of abortion and reproductive problems in dairy cattle.
Aim: This study aimed to estimate the seroprevalence of IBR and the related risk factors in the dairy population in Gharbia governorate, Egypt.

Background: The reproductive problem is an animal health-related bottleneck that constrains livestock genetic improvement efforts in tropical countries such as Ethiopia. The infectious causes of reproductive disorders are one cause of decreased reproductive efficiency. This study aimed to determine the seroprevalence to Bovine Herpesvirus-1 (BHV1), Bovine Viral Diarrhea Virus (BVDV), Neospora caninum (N.

The bovine respiratory disease complex (BRD) is a multifactorial disease caused by various bacterial and viral pathogens. Using rapid pathogen detection techniques is helpful for tailoring therapeutic and preventive strategies in affected animals and herds. The objective of this study was to report the frequency of 10 pathogens by multiplex RT-qPCR on samples submitted for BRD diagnosis to a diagnostic laboratory (Biovet Inc.

Bovine herpesvirus type 1 (BHV-1) seriously affects the production safety of the cattle industry and leads to epidemics worldwide. Luteolin (Lut), a flavonoid substance, can be found in vegetables, fruits, and herbs and possesses various biological properties. Here, we found that Lut can dose-dependently and significantly inhibit the cytopathic effects of BHV-1, decrease the viral titer, and suppress the BHV-1 gB gene and VP8 protein levels on bovine nasal turbinate osteoblasts (BT) and bovine kidney epithelial cells (MDBK).
